See my prior posts. I said after hearing about the 5th, It's bad enough we got brutally (rhymes with graped), we have to give up a 5th too ?. And prior to that post I gave my feelings about Snow. BUT, considering I expected Snow to screw it up even further, and for us to get stuck with Vanek, I'm happy we got SOMETHING. Gonna have to root for the Canadiens to make the playoffs now. But with a backup goalie as our GM, I expected this. Snow is above average draft wise, but he's ALWAYS been terrible trade wise.

Maybe Collberg becomes a decent player. It's just the whole thought process on the Islanders part from last year's draft to today blows the mind.

So end of the day

1st (2015), 5th 2014, 2nd (2014 WPG), 2nd (2016 MIN), Torrey Mitchell

for

Collberg and 2nd (2014)

Is that right?

conditional 1st
5th is in 2015 i believe
2nd (2014 WPG), 2nd (2016 MIN), Torrey Mitchell
40+ games of Matt Moulson

for

40+ games of Vanek
2014 2nd
Sebastian Collberg
F Cody McCormick

RING, RING, RING

Wang: "Evgeni, Charles here. Get your a** to my office right away!"
Nabakov: "Mr. Wang, I'm dressed and I'm getting ready to go on the ice for tonight's game. I'm the starting goalie tonight."
Wang: "Stop this Goalie talk, put on a suit and get your a** up here pronto!! I just promoted Garth to President of Hockey Operations, and named you our next GM!"

LOL....Sorry, Couldn't resist.

Garth got more for AMac than Vanek. That's why you don't wait til the deadline. Vanek should have been dealt a few days ago, before everyone in this musical chairs game found a seat.

Collberg is a good prospect, i don't understand all the hate on him. The problem is he's all we got for Vanek so Snow completely messed this up. Just because Collberg's under 6 foot doesn't make him a bad prospect. He has elite offensive skills so I look forward to him at Bridgeport next year.

But the real issue is Snow's complete miss handling of our assets and leading us to constant failure. He needs to be sacked along with Cappy this summer to let a new guy come in and attempt to put the pieces together again.

Snow really is an idiot.

Collberg will never get a chance on LI, the fans already hate him just because he was what we got for Vanek. Montreal just took on some of our bad juju so they are destined to miss the playoffs now, sorry Montreal. The picks go away and then we are left with Collberg. I'll root for the kid myself, but I'm not so sure many others will ever support him. The kid has no chance, it's sad.

Now that my rage has subsided a little, we are no different than we were before the trade now. We will continue to audition the kids the rest of the season and look to add Griffin Reinhart to the blue line next year. We will not be in the bidding for any UFA's because we are a Mickey Mouse organization. We'll fill the few holes we don't have earmarked for our kids with 3rd tier UFA's like PMB and Regin once again.

I wanted a good return for Vanek so Snow had assets to trade at the Draft to upgrade the roster. With only OUR 1st and 2nd round picks worth anything decent, the level of players we could have traded for just went from the Edler type to a bunch of scrubs. Ugh, I'm so annoyed. The best hope and really the ONLY hope is that our years of drafting will pay off and our vaunted prospects pan out and we are a completely homegrown team. That has always been the plan and Snow's inability to do anything with his NHL assets just keeps pushing the timeline back.

I had high hopes for this offseason, now I'm not sure. I look at the situation rationally and see how this team could be the Colorado Avs next season with basically 2 moves - a top-4 d-man and a legit goalie. We have the cap space need to get them too. Now, my faith has diminished greatly.

Isles fans will endure, we always do. We do deserve a lot better.

how did he get more for amac than vanek? are you saying collberg is worth a 3rd rounder?

Collberg got a long way ahead of him to reach the NHL, but the potential is there, he just need to put it all together. Glad he got out of Montreal, think Islanders might be the perfect destination for him to develop into an NHLer. Will most likely make the jump to NA in the summer, that was the plan when Montreal had his rights at least. Had good chemistry with Sundström when they played together in Frölunda.

It's true, we have a real knack for developing players well. :sarcasm:

Guys the market did suck.......
not taking the blame away from snow.. But this is better than nothing

Still snow must go

Yeah, good points raised by many here re: the market. Lots of players available made it a buyers market. Refusal to eat salary which many others did drove the price down even more.

There is a lot of stuff being said about Snow right now as a GM. I am a Habs fan and, rightfully so, am psyched. That said its not like he picked this offer over others that were clearly better. It was this or nothing.

Call him dum or whatever you want but at least he got something back for him.

We both fogot an additional 2nd that we sent out :help:. The 40 games of Moulson and Vanek are meaningless.

Very well said, but you have to realize, there is no pressure or accountability that Snow has to worry about. Wang is in "I don't give a ****" mode, he's in "can't wait until I get that Brooklyn money" mode, and is dumber than Snow when it comes to hockey. As far as he knows, Snow did a good job on the trade. So there really is no pressure on Snow to get a great return for Vanek. And he knows he won't get in trouble, let alone fired, just for making a dumb/pisspoor/Pejorative Slured trade. It's not like Wang is watching the media on TSN or NHL Tonight making fun of Garth Snow and the ****** trade.

Snow is decent, slightly above average when it comes to the draft, but he's ALWAYS been terrible trade wise. I know a lot of you liked the Smyth trade, I hated it. Then the same year, he trades a 2nd round pick for 6 games of Richard Zednick. I gave him a break because he was a rookie GM, but the trades have continued to be bad for the next 7 years. But, he has no worries in the world, because he knows he won't get fired.

We certainly do, well put.

Is it just me or does it seem that LA (with a good GM) and Vancouver (with perhaps the one GM worse than Snow) seem to have hurt us twice now?

First both teams gave away good young goalies for returns that were worse than what the Isles offered.

And now with the Kings going cheap for Gaborik, when Vanek would have probably been a much better fit, and with the Canucks putting Kesler out there, probably diverting interest from teams now and who might want to retain assets in case he is available at the draft.

We endure but the management of this team is enduring too. That's the problem.

I would bet alot of money that Snow had to have a better offer on the table at one point than what he ended up accepting. Snow crapped the bed

Some of you need to settle down.

Prices were down all across the board. It was clearly a buyer's market, with too many forwards (Vanek, Moulson, Cammy, Gaborik, St. Louis) available. Could Snow have gotten a better offer? Probably.

The way some of you bash Collberg is ridiculous though. He's a recent 33rd overall pick and like it or not, he's an Islander now. The guy was mentioned in plenty of rumors leading up to the deadline and so many of you were clamoring for a forward prospect.

Take a deep breath.

Dumb and your post is just pointless. At least stay on the Habs boards when it comes to bragging. I really don't think any of us want to here this right now.

Lets hope we tank far enough and fast enough to pick top three this year. Someone go tell Grabner to stop scoring in overtime and let Bailey know to keep up the good work on turnovers.:shakehead

Well I'm off to bed soon...too much wine! Don't get too depressed everyone, life goes on.;)

It really all depends on who the next goaltender is. We're going to live and die off of that move. But agree with most of this post nonetheless. Well said, PW.

eeesh. time to bring this one back for old time sake.
