Desharnais didn’t need to be “turned around”. He had a good year last year. You guys just don’t know how to utilize him I guess or make the best of his skillset
In fairness to Vinny, the man is 28 and toiled in the minors FOREVER. You simply cannot fault a guy for taking an offer that’s a full million higher than he could’ve got in Edmonton. A late career guy who’s constantly on the bubble cannot turn that down.Hopefully Vinny (and Klim Kostin) help some of these dumb dumbs around the NHL realize that sometimes staying put for a bit less money in a great situation is better than chasing the dough. Desharnais did this to himself and I am not shocked by this outcome.
Your analysis is accurate. He absolutely can clear the crease. There isn't much else he can do, but he can absolutely clear the crease.Well, I've legit never watched him play (well, I've watched hockey games in which he's gotten minutes, but never actually noticed him whatsoever), but I do have an account at HockeyViz...

...and that makes it look like he can be described as "G-ddamn, that boy sure can clear the crease! ...dunno if he can do anything else at all, but he for sure clears the crease!"
I imagine that would have value to somebody somewhere.
It was a head scratcher given he signed him for two yr at 2 mil when he hadn't even established himself as a full time NHL.Ruthervin has done an outstanding job here but yea, really hated that signing the moment it was announced
Why? These bubble guys need to secure their future beyond hockey. A couple extra million means more than having your name on the cup and being broke.Hopefully Vinny (and Klim Kostin) help some of these dumb dumbs around the NHL realize that sometimes staying put for a bit less money in a great situation is better than chasing the dough. Desharnais did this to himself and I am not shocked by this outcome.
Ya all of 120ish games in ahlIn fairness to Vinny, the man is 28 and toiled in the minors FOREVER. You simply cannot fault a guy for taking an offer that’s a full million higher than he could’ve got in Edmonton. A late career guy who’s constantly on the bubble cannot turn that down.
Agreed on Kostin though. He could’ve done some good things in Edmonton and really set himself up for a big payday.
Are you seriously saying he didn’t have a long road to get the the NHL??Ya all of 120ish games in ahl
Not much different than any other prospect that goes the college routeAre you seriously saying he didn’t have a long road to get the the NHL??
Just your typical guy who plays 4 years NCAA, a full season in the ECHL, then a split season ECHL/AHL then establishes himself as a NHLer at the tender age of 27 hey?Not much different than any other prospect that goes the college route
Umm ya that’s generally what happens with college prospects that spend 4 years in collegeJust your typical guy who plays 4 years NCAA, a full season in the ECHL, then a split season ECHL/AHL then establishes himself as a NHLer at the tender age of 27 hey?
He’s one of those players you forget exist.
“Vincent Desharnais poised to make debut with Edmonton Oilers - Edmonton | Globalnews.caUmm ya that’s generally what happens with college prospects that spend 4 years in college
That’s if they even make it
Only because he doesn’t need to move muchHe skates like an upside-down Coke bottle, but at least, he's not a total detriment on the PK.
That trade isn't really related at all to keeping them, but I do agree I didn't love giving up Kesselring for a Bjugstad rental.Still shocked Oilers traded Kesselring but kept Ceci and Desharnais.
Oh you mean Ceci and Desharnais weren't actually the pillars of the Oilers D? I see Edmonton is in the top 8 again this year in best goals against as they were last year under Knoblaugh. Big shock. Nurse is having a very nice bounce back season freed of pylons like Desharnais and Ceci.
The bar has been low, he’s been awful for several years. He’s now playing average and well below his contract. It’s an illusion.This. Nurse has been fantastic this year.
