Because as good as he is, he has been playing injured almost every season through his 20's and I see no reason why he suddenly becomes durable in his 30's. Imagine paying Matthews 14M until he is 35 and he can barely skate out there

We'll pay him more than that with the cap going up. Only way these guys are not Leafs is if they have retired.

One big problem is our D core not scoring. There is a massive issue with that and Rielly has been so terrible that it makes no sense that changes haven't been made.
It is not just not scoring but we have to play such a vanilla o zone game compared to many teams. You are seeing more and more high 3 or even high 4 man stuff and going high to low with speed with one guy at the net.

We have virtually none of that. Rielly should be able to do it but it's not part of our system. Watch Hughes.. ... The Canes are a perfect example and it was their tweak in personnel to a more mobile and offensive group that has them doing things they have never done before to create offense. It is why they have their 4 lines balanced because you aren't relying on offensive skill or rush offense. Your D are the play drivers.

It's a completely different way to play hockey. Leafs.. we will do the exact same things we have done for 8 years except this time it is with a few bigger D. Hope our goalie stands on his head

We'll see. If they are running back the core 3 years from now and they haven't at least made the final 4 the fan base is going to check out like they did before Shanahan convinced the board a rebuild was the best path
