I watched a documentary some time ago about the Broad Street Bullies of the 70s and how the owner was watching his team get pummeled in back to back playoff years and he decided to stack the team with hard, fighters and physical forwards. Basically their ownership knew they couldn't pretend the same cast of players would change their stripes so they went in a different direction.

It took them two years, it's 9 years and counting in Toronto...
