Proposal: Vancouver-New Jersey

I mean this trade is a whole lotta hodge podge. it's volume, not quality. Which is what the NJD side has been saying.
When you use the power of hindsight 7 years later sure but when you look at it from the perspective at the time the players they received were all mid 20's and trending well (Tierney might not be great now but he was still a 2nd rounder breaking into the league back then, Demelo was rounding into a full time NHL defenceman).

3 firsts, 2 seconds, a recent second rounder in his mid 20's and a mid 20's defenceman is a lot of hodge podge? I wholeheartedly disagree with you.

I think a team would pay a pretty high price for 2 full years of Quinn Hughes even if they're pretty sure he's leaving after.
Yes and if you win a cup then the chance of him staying is much higher. Also helps if you are a great hockey market as Quinn compared Vancouver to jersey after game 1 last year and said it wasn’t a comparison at all.

Could the Devils move on from Keefe, hire Tocchet and trade for Quinn? Quinn loves coach Tocchet.

I'd say it's pretty clear what will happen here. It's too bad for the Canucks - guess you're going back to the drawing board. Quinn will keep being the captain as he should, then he'll leave when he can. How could you even blame QH for leaving after this years drama.

Knowing Quinn a lot better than you folks, he’s stated how much it means to him to be that guy and how he wants to lead this team and understands the responsibility he has being named captain. It’s not in his character to just bolt to NJ cause he’s feeling homesick, it’s not in his character at all.

That’s why most Canucks fans aren’t really worried as long as the Canucks have a strong off season and bolster the top 6. We JUST barely missed the playoffs with an EP downyear, a 100 point center being traded, and multiple injuries to our key players to the point where we were running a Forbort/Myers/Juulsen/Desharnais/Soucy/Brannstrom d core, and running a rookie laden line up. With our D situation fixed and Demko finally healthy, we are looking really good for next season at defense/goal and just need to address our offense which already has the key ingredients but lacks top end talent.

Quinn will eventually play with his brothers, I’m pretty certain of it, but very likely not in his prime years.
First domino, just saying-

Yeah they traded a high quantity of assets, but they didn't trade any young core pieces of their current roster.

There's a reason they didn't offer up Hertl, Meier, or Couture in that trade - they were still planning on competing for the foreseeable future.

A trade from NJ for Q Hughes would probably look similar in composition.
Oh yeah, I actually agree with this fundamentally for sure. It wouldnt be a trade for a foundational player, as you stated, but significant assets in my opinion. The Karlsson trade had a lot of assets I consider significant.

But the point I was trying make originally, which i didnt convey well enough obviously, was that the term left on the contract isnt going to scare teams off from trading for him, or feeling hesitant about his intention to re-sign, IMO.

Seems like it's only a matter of time before Quinn goes to New Jersey. Wouldn't at all be surprised to see it happen this summer as it looks like Vancouver is imploding.

They might be scared off if they believe his intention is to go to NJ regardless, but otherwise I agree.

If I recall, San Jose was a place that Karlsson was open to going to long term. A team will have to be convinced that's the case.

You never know, I think a lot of fans are making a lot of assumptions based of an old mans ramblings.

No shot it happens this summer. You take even a minuscule chance that Quinn re-signs over getting a slightly better return moving him this summer
