Simmonds at 50% retention for a 3rd and b prospect would be more than fair. He won’t return a 2nd. Could be a decent depth pickup.

I'd keep Schaller, but even for an expiring Simmonds, we would have to dump Baertschi's contract I'd think.

Part retention, say 30%, and a third for Simmonds at full salary?

Don't really see why this is getting so much shade. Simmonds on a good team is a .5 ppg mid six guy with a physical presence. He has an expiring contract, and the ask is not a likely to be too high. It's a low risk potentially mid-reward move.
Because Vancouver needs a true top 6 player not another 3rd line who can move up. Simmonds game has fallen off as well.

if Vancouver is buying they should be swinging higher.

That sounds like weird fit but Simmer deserves to get the hell outta NJ.

He's better than you think. I'd think a 3rd gets it done, and it could work quite well for the buyer.

Yikes ... Simmonds - a 31 year old living in a 60 year old body. Maybe we could, again, entice Sundin back out of retirement with some huge offer.

Love the guy but if Devils can get someone to pay pretty much anything for his name, they should do it.

At this point he fails to produce at all and someone younger like Anderson can get his ice time.

No way in Hell would I give second for Simmonds. Better off just waiting for Leivo or Ferland to come back as they are better players. Or add a prospect to the second and get some that is a top six player like Toffoli.

I mean, the second is conditional on playoff success... hard to be too upset about that.

Ideally it would be Schaller/Baertschi/3rd (no conditions) but why does NJ do that?

Is Simmonds coming with a time machine and some sensu beans for his broken down body?
Yep, exactly.

You get the 25 year old Simmonds from the 2013/14 season. And NJ is really generous and will only ask for the rights of that lanky 15 years old Swedish C prospect. :thumbu:

NJ could easily swallow the Baertschi contract. If you want to include Baertschi or any unwanted piece with term, you upgrade your offer elsewhere, though. Dumping Baertschi alone warrants at least a third round pick.
