Interesting note. She’s been a VPD officer and an active member of the Canucks Alumni for years. She was fondly speaking of the possibility of playing for the Goldeneyes once they became a reality. I wonder if this is going to result in her playing for her adoptive hometown team.

I'm happy for the Goldeneyes but not happy they have used up all of Vancouver's 1st overall luck :(
LOL! In their 56 year history, the Canucks have never earned the first overall pick. And the Goldeneyes secure it in their first season the league.

Or course it helps a lot that the PWHL doesn't use 'lottery balls' to figure out who drafts first overall.

What a year to win it too 🤩

The Vancouver Goldeneyes have fired head coach Brian Idalski after one season

There’s some rumblings on Twitter that he wasn’t well liked by the players and didn’t treat them terribly well. Not sure how he lasted a whole season if so.

But with the roster assembled, Vancouver should have performed a lot better than they did. Their coaching looked unprepared and uninspired lots of times. Hopefully a new voice brings more cohesion.

Sarah Nurse is back for 2 more years !

Great news for the Goldeneyes as she was far and away their best offensive forward.

Smart money is on Nurse, Jaques and Maschmeyer being their three protected players. Claire Thompson would have been a no brainer, but it sounds like she might be going to med school. Jenn Gardiner is another whom it would be good to protect, but I think the only way she can leave is if she accepts an expansion team contract offer (which doesn’t sound likely).

Kind of confused by the expansion selection rules this year, but we’ll see how it goes.

Looks like Nurse was a driving force behind getting Idalski fired per Ian Kennedy and quite honestly I’m not even mad about that because I too wasn’t a huge fan of Brian Idalski at all. The team lacked structure , didn’t play well with his system , he could maximize the players strength , the looked lost most nights , and we didn’t play like a team at all until it was too little to late .

This team needs a players coach who like Manny Malholtra can communicate , connect with the players , help the team through adverse situations, develop players , , get the best out of the group, and finally they need a leader.

This is a huge off-season for the Goldeneyes and Cara Gardner Morey is off too a fantastic start . Now put together a championship calibre roster and hire a competent coach . Especially as we are about to draft the best player in the World in Caroline KK Harvey .

Some big movement in the PWHL today as the Expansion process is underway. Ottawa Charge Captain Brianne Jenner signed with PWHL Hamilton, as did New York Sirens goaltender Kayla Osborne.

But the biggest action is in Detroit - they signed Darryl Watts, and it's believed all three of Hillary Knight, Hannah Bilka and Cayla Barnes are going to end up in Detroit as well.

So funny how Hamilton got 5 studs no problem and Vegas is having a difficult time filling out their roster

Apparently a number of players have been very firm that they won’t be moving, and that some are planning on starting families / have started families.

But it’s not lost on me that Hamilton seems to be a destination of choice for professional womens’ hockey, while Las Vegas is not.

The deadline for Phase 2 has passed. 4 players still need to be signed to contracts with Vegas needing 3 players .

Gardiner is safe no matter what because she isn’t under contract

Kind of wild that the Goldeneyes haven't lost a player yet, and are about to be allowed to protect three more:

If the list you posted is all the eligible players and they can protect three, I am guessing it is Bell, Miller and Vanisova. Runner ups would be Campbell, Boreen and Jobst-Smith.

EDIT:

Some good vibes.

That’s correct , the Goldeneyes ESCAPE PHASE 2 and do not lose anyone !!! Santa Maria !!!!

For the next Phase I would Protect Gardiner , Miller , and the Captain Ashton Bell !!

Wow we are in such good shape and the entire core will almost certainly be back with Nurse , Maschy, Jacques , Gardiner , Miller and Bell . On top of that we are drafting KK so we are on solid grounding !!

Did I read it correctly, that the Goldeneyes had the highest average attendance in the league at over 11,000 fans a game at the Pacific Coliseum?

Good on the Goldeneyes and good on Vancouver! If it's not happening already, it soon will be--that the best women hockey players on the planet will be clamoring to sign up and come to Vancouver.

What a pleasant change that would be, considering what's happening with UFA'S and the Canucks downtown these days.

So both Daniel and Gardiner were offered expansion team contracts and rejected them. Wonder if they are two players the Goldeneyes protect in Phase 3. Gardiner especially seems like a no brainer.

The Vancouver Goldeneyes have resigned both Izzy Daniel and Jennifer Gardiner .

Two Young and Foundational players to this Team . Izzy Daniel is a young player with a high upside , outstanding skater , powerful shot , high IQ and outstanding on ice vision. Finally had a phenomenal second half and was one of the Goldeneyes unsung hero’s in season one.

Jennifer Gardiner is a hometown girl and future captain of this team . Future PWHL Superstar . She can do it all , Score , Pass , Defend . Her potential is through the roof and finished the season with a 4 goal and 5 point performance against the Seattle Torrent and is a huge part of the teams culture and what the Goldeneyes are building here .

Great news on both fronts.

The last protection spot becomes intriguing. Miller and Bell are both there to protect - or do the Goldeneyes sign someone from another team?

Hard to see anyone else available bringing more value than one of those two.

Hannah Miller is the final protected player for the Goldeneyes in this phase of the process.

Some key unprotected players are Captain Ashton Bell, Teresa Vanisova, and netminder Kristen Campbell.

Others are Abby Boreen, Nina Jobst-Smith, Michelle Karvinen, Anna Segedi, and Maddie Samoskevich.
