I would love to see the Sedins win a cup, or even join a team capable of taking them there.

I don't think Columbus is a fit though. Yes, I think they will have success, but between Tortarella being there, the relative needs and strengths of the Blue Jackets' roster, and even just the logistics of fitting them under the cap, it all adds upto a very unlikely set of circumstances needed to make this work.

That only applies if your team is at the cap.

We were when we put him on LTIR. Current available relief is just shy of $5m per CapFriendly - not the full value of his contract, but close enough.

Columbus also doesn't strike me as a team with the budget to be paying somebody over $5m a year to sit at home.

Horton wasn't insured. Clarkson is. Would still be nice to Make That Problem Go Away, but we're not exactly in a rush to do so at this point.

I'm not sure about the Expansion and $/cap implications, or what exactly is proposed concerning retention.

But leaving that aside the trade value is nice for the Jackets. I don't think Jenner + Milano + Clarkson is that much to give up for two years of the Sedins. The Jackets are contenders, I think. The team is built solid. The Sedins might put them over the top.

Lots of ways to fit them in the lineup...

Saad -Wennberg - Foligno
Daniel - Henrik - Atkinson
Hartnell - Dubinsky - Anderson
Calvert - Karlsson - Gagner

The expansion implications are a significant portion of why I don't want to do it as they both have NMCs. Next year, though (once the Wennberg and Anderson situations are settled)? That would be TOTALLY ****ING AMAZING.

If they are still here at that point and your team is still projecting to be a contender, or at least on the verge, why not. If the pieces still fit.

There's this really cool thing called insurance that pays for Clarkson :)

So we're pretending insurance premiums aren't a real thing? Sure, why not.

Also, I'm pretty sure these contracts are only covered up to 80%, so that would be a million bucks per year they're paying Clarkson, plus the premiums, to sit at home.

Hon? No matter how much you nitpick the Clarkson situation, that's not going to change the answer.

Right now it's a no. We have no hole to fill right now. Our only spot I am unhappy with is our 6th D and he's a rookie so it's going to take time. The only thing we will need to upgrade is C and that's what PLD is. Not saying I'd do it and 100% honest I haven't seen many VAN games the past 2 years because my ex lives there and it was my #2 team for 6 years now watching them makes me angry because her haha so my value of Horvat is not going to be on point but if developing well he would have to be involved. Other then that we don't have an actual cap dump on the team we need to unload and 0 holes mean we would need back overpayment. Keep in mind we liked him so much we took him over a consensus #3 to make sure we didn't lose him trading back.

Would like as a Canuck fan maybe with a pick and throwing in a Hansen or someone like Skille.

I can see why CBJ fans wouldn't do it though, not quite a proven contender yet.

Maybe re-evaluate with others next year. I am also not sure if the Nucks org is smart enough to try to move the Sedins. I am skeptical. I think the current group will kill the team over the next 3-4 years and a new group will need to rebuild.

Premiums are a real thing but they pale in comparison to the contract value. Columbus is tickled pink they may only be paying $1.2MM per year for the remainder of his contract under insurance terms. And if/when needed they'll get the cap relief.

This is a non-issue at this point for the Jackets. Retaining Horton would have been an issue.
