I dont know but with Ceci reportedly on his way out I could see Dorion having interest in Gudbranson. Maybe send Zack Smith the other way.

Not bad, how's Smith play versus his contract though? I'm more concerned with the production versus dollars than about just dumping either player.

Sutter/Gudbranson/2nd for 3rd could work, something along those lines. That is under the assumption that Gudbranson has around a 2nd rounder value which is not quite enough to get Sutters contract off the books. Swapping your 2nd for a 3rd (would be Pitts 3rd in 2020 or ours in 2021, or a 2019 that we acquire between now and when we make this hypothetical deal) adds enough value imo to get it done. If I am overvaluing Gudbranson (relative to how GMs value him) then maybe adjust that a bit - like, say, drop the Sens pick to a 5th or something

This, too, I could see although I am not sure if the Nucks would be interested. Doesnt save them much money and the contracts have the same term

I'd definitely prefer something like this over taking another contract back.

f*** i though Smith had one year left on his contract but he actually has 2. Smith is an ok 4th liner at this point and can PK, but pretty over paid at 3.25 million.

@Hindustan Smyl making a proposal to trade away the Canucks' first round pick.

Water is wet.

Lol. I deserve that I guess.

If I was the actual GM of the team, I likely never would trade a 1st.

I do however believe that it's an interesting exercise to consider the other side of the coin.

In this case, the other side of the coin would entail the Canucks clearing up major cap space, and making significant offers in the UFA market on July 1st.

[UFA player] can then complement our core consisting of Pettersson, Boeser, Horvat, and whoever we draft in the 1st round of 2019.

Both only have two years remaining after this season. Why would we pay a 1st, which could potentially be a top ten pick, just to dump Sutter and Gudbranson when we're not yet ready to compete for a serious cup run?
