To Buffalo : Elias Pettersson

To Vancouver : Dylan Cozens , Bowen Byram , 2025 2nd round pick

I recently saw a proposal much similar to this in an article online recently that was an opinion piece , the only difference is I’m bumping the 2nd round pick from 2026 to 2025.

As a Canucks fan I make this trade , as much as I love Pettersson, Cozens and Byram are both from the west coast and fill two needs by getting a young centre to replace Petey and a top 4 defenseman they desperately need to take pressure off of Hughes on the Canucks and the Sabres get that bonafide young superstar under contract for a very long time they need.

Buffalo would say no. The offer has some merit based on need for both organizations, but I don’t believe Cozens is going anywhere, especially after the Sabres organization made a long term commitment via his contract and it’s still early on.

Good balance in this proposal however.

Buffalo should absolutely do a deal like this. Having a 1-2 center punch of Thompson/Pettersson with Dahlin on the backend could be enough to end the playoff drought. They need to package assets for the best player in the deal.

I think the value is here for Vancouver but I’m also big on Cozens, I just don’t think he’s a long term center answer. This is a right shot goal scoring power forward and whoever grabs this guy is going to be glad they did.

I can understand Canuck fans not loving this deal. Hard to love deals where you give up the best asset. Long term think they come out ahead.

Edit: I agree with the poster above me. Buffalo shouldn’t look to move Cozens. If they do it has to be in a package like this where they get the best player though.

Ya as a Canucks fan one would need to be big on Cozens to entertain this deal and while I'm really big on Bryam I have my doubts on Cozens.

Good proposal? I feel like this is actually a good proposal.

I say no, but just because I don’t want the EP drama. With an already mentally soft locker room.. y’know? Also would be curious to see if I’m wrong though, maybe he thrives in a smaller market and w/o JT “jockman” Miller yelling at him or whatever the issue is.
