Proposal: Vancouver blowing it up!

No way the UFA rights to Sprong and Bastian are on the table? And what about Cholowski? Messier said he’s young and promising. That sounds like the sort of player you build around not one you trade.
Messier has been hit in the head too many times if he thinks Cholowski is promising.

If I'm Vancouver, I'm asking for Silayev, Nemec, and a 1st as the base

Nemec a first and something else but I’m skeptical NJ moves Silayev. Neither team has to make a deal right now. I know Vancouver want promising futures but that’s not ownership’s preference if the team’s attempt to retool rather than rebuild is accurate. Vancouver fans are frustrated and I can sympathize. My guess is they keep Quinn until he definitively tells them he will not sign an extension. I’m thinking he’s open to a short extension at least. Jack is locked up for five years. Maybe he offers Vancouver two or three years more?

For what? Pettersson?
I really think they are putting a package together and Zacha will be a piece. When people in the Vancouver media even suggest Zacha as a trade target it always feels now like the management and media are bracing the fanbase.

There has been smoke around Boston and Vancouver since January and when the Bruins and Canucks both fell out of the standings, it makes sense that they put any trades on the backburner.

You're guess is as good as mine as far as what Pettersson is now worth but this management team has a track record of trading away players for pieces (Horvat, Miller for example) and then immediately shipping those pieces out for the asset they want (M.Petterssen, Hronek, etc).

I don’t see it unless there’s something they can put together for another potential #1 center. Zacha as your #1 center, you might as well just give up.

I disagree. If you WANT a guy like Quinn Hughes and he comes available, you go get him now

A lot can happen and change in 3 years that could very well shift team trajectories. You capitalize on the Canucks being a bit of a mess right now.
Canucks aren't sorting out the mess in three years. It's over, even with McKenna or whoever in the draft. Okay, maybe another team makes Quinn fall in love with them post-trade but the reality is NJ is still in a good situation for contention. Really only need a few more depth forwards.

Vancouver isn't Washington or St. Louis with a track record of winning. This is one of the most inconsistent, self-owning franchises in the league.

Devils can wait. And they'll have to move Dillon or someone else to make room for Quinn now, whereas it will all sort itself out cap-wise in three years.
