Proposal: Vancouver blowing it up!

From the Habs perspective I'd be interested in Sherwood, but don't think he's a 40 point player.

Dakota Joshua

EP, but can't see the Habs paying the price he would have commanded last off season.

Potentially Hronek.

That is if the Nucks are selling completely to suck major ass for a chance at McKenna

So why did the GM even say what he said? Seems more detrimental to himself and his franchise unless Q. Hughes was threatening to blab to the media that he wants to go to NJ and NJ only

Because Rutherford can't get out of his own way.
Maybe he’s beefing with ownership and wants to sabotage the ship. Really dumb thing to say at a press conference. I’m sure word gets around but that’s the type of thing you keep tight lipped about and workout with the Devils behind the scene

I mean our idiot team president pretty much tampered as he was telling us about his Christmas list, so I don't know if even he's a master of that kind of misdirection.

The question must be asked then, what would New Jersey accept from Vancouver for the younger Hughes boys? E Pettersson (the center), E Pettersson (the good one), WIllander and what else?

Probably nothing. The player with the leverage is on Vancouver.

I could see the Flames trading for Pettersson lol. No idea what they would give up for it but they really hate rebuilding and wolf has made it even harder for them to do so

In what world is the $11.6m heartless wonder worth 2 1st round picks ++.
laine will need a 1rounder probably plus to just get out of that contract. Dach is always hurt he’d need a little plus to move that. Montreal isn’t paying enough IMO

Laine put up 5 more goals t hf an Pettersson in 12 fewer games and only has 1 year left on his contract. Pettersson is the 5th highest paid player in the league, only managed a 15 goal season and has been crap for a season and a half. Pettersson at his full cap hit for another 7 years is a brutal contract. I wouldn't trade Laine for him straight across. It could hamstring the Habs for the better part of a decade

EP40 is a basket case at this point.

He will not fetch as much as Nucks think.

There is no way EP is traded without retention.

Laine + Kapanen or Beck + Mailloux or Engstrom + 1st in 2025
For
EP40 with 2.6 million retained (approx 24%).

Not happy with that? Oh well!
EP40 for EK65, straight up. No retention either way. You get an offensive D to replace Hughes, and can use the Hughes haul to rebuild at center.

When it seems like Pettersson has mailed it in and Quinn Hughes, the captain, wants out to play with his bros - heres my proposal:

Devils get:

Quinn Hughes 7.85M UFA 2027

Canucks get:

Simon Nemec 0.918M RFA 2026

Ondrej Palat 6M UFA 2027 for cap-reasons

Casey Seamus 0.95M RFA 2027

1st 2026

Devils get a Norris-caliber 1D to play with his brothers and he will very likely resign there after 2027. Canucks get 2 very good young defencemen in Nemec and Seamus + a 1st to rebuild the team properly.

Vancouver get:

Patrick Laine 8.7M UFA 2027

Kirby Dach 3.36M UFA 2026

Canadiens 1st 2025

Canadiens 1st 2026

Montreal get:

Elias Pettersson 11.6M UFA 2032

Montreal get their 1-2 punch at C and hope EP rebuilds his career. Vancouver get rid of a guy, that does seem disinterested playing there. Canucks also get 2x 1st:s for their rebuild after their best player and captain also seem to want to leave.Dach could become a serviceable 3C. Laine is in for cap reasons.
'

Thoughts?
EP isnt worth that he is negative value what in the world? two 1st round picks and there is zero protection on either? and you don't even eat up half of EP's cap hit? are you nuts? lol

Thoughts?
i could see vegas trading for pettersson instead of giving eichel a raise. not that eichel goes to vancouver, but whatever the eichel trade return is would be part of that package. he has a full no-move, maybe some bizarre 3-way with rangers.

van- fox & lefreniere
nyr-eichel
vegas-pettersson

assuming boeser is leaving and vancouver will have the cap space

Id be betting he isnt comfortable in Vancouver? The "Miller issue" and his lackluster play. In another surrounding he could be a 100p player again. Habs have a young core and atleast age-wise he fits. They also have cap and need of a C. IMO EP is just not comfortable in Vancouver and he will probably rebound somewhere else.
JR just pulled his depends down and took a massive dump on Pettersson. I don’t get what they are thinking here with him. This is not a player they should be keeping at any cost. This summer he should be moved, they are not going to get the value they wish they will but keeping him is also worse because it’s a distraction and a massive contract that is not going to get it done there.

lol Bratt’s going nowhere. Also Boeser’s a UFA and has no value. We don’t need Demko.
This 2025 year Allen walks and Markstrom's contract is done next year I doubt they have him back at over 6 M per...they have to pay Luke Hughes and that won't be cheap plus a redone Quinn if... and Hamilton's still has 3 years on that Albatross of a deal...a lot of mouths to feed someone will have to go

The reality on these sort of goofy "quantity for quality" deals is that...as much as Petey is a headcase, and they've got a lot of work to do in trying to retool this team and convincing Quinton Hughes to sign and extension and stay...trading those sort of elite core pieces for a smorgasbord of mediocre pieces absolutely does nothing for moving the Canucks closer to the playoffs, or especially to contending - in the near or long term. It just does not make sense. As much as other teams still obviously covet and would love to raid Vancouver for the actually good pieces for pennies on the dollar.

Yeah they really can’t afford to sell right now. Things go south next year and Quinn rejects and extension July 1 then you start to think about it. Only thing that would suck is it likely means another bad EP year and his NMC will have kicked in. Basically have to take that risk though to try and make Quinn want to stay.
