Ultimately I guess the team doesn't see him as a top 6 option.

With Garland's glowup and Lekkerimaki as a option, Tocchet probably wants somebody more robust in the bottom 6.

EDIT: his ice time and shift counter in the last game (vs a good team) was probably a warning sign or death knell.

This is the NHL now that agents have talked about with the higher contracts squeezing the bottom out

I mean back to back 40 point seasons would usually get you something with term 5 years ago

Guy took what he could get when we signed him

Timing feels odd with Boeser probably missing time due to the head shot. I guess they really want to call up Lekk

Yeah, bizarre timing unless Boeser has been immediately cleared, which seems unlikely.

Lekkerimaki is getting ventilated at ES in Abbotsford and I don't like any notion of 'doing a Gaudette' and yanking a guy back and forth when he's adjusting to his first season of pro hockey. Give him 40 games there before making any decisions.

I suspect that Tocchet has voiced that he prefers Bains in the squad over Sprong (ironically given the good chemistry of those two players) and that's why this has happened.

Can’t really disagree with Tocchet here - we need to play with an identity — and Sprong, like Kuzmenko, was never going to do what was needed to be successful in this system.

Sissons to Canucks pls

A few Canucks insiders speculating (sharing?) that it was a trust issue with Tocchet that wasn’t going to improve.

Hmm. While I think the current regime has done an impressive job overall, it's puzzling that they'd sign a player that they really ought to have known was not going to mesh well with Tocchet.

Unless their plan all along was to sign him in an attempt to convert cap space to draft picks.
