Very Nice, Very Evil!
What are the Sharks doing?Bump. Thought Desharnais had negative value but he netted a 5th from San Jose. Good job by Dubas here.

It is kind of funny that it’s a 5th round pick in 4 years (2028) though.Bump. Thought Desharnais had negative value but he netted a 5th from San Jose. Good job by Dubas here.

Every GM is gonna have some but this was definitely a miss. Pretty much half a Poolman type mistake.
I would have said it was a bad miss... but low salary and we were able to move on without much of a hit if any really.
Giving up a late pick 3 years from now to have guys who are good in the room and will keep spirits high while losing.
Ya it seems to be a trend these days in the NHL. Just kick the can down the road.It is kind of funny that it’s a 5th round pick in 4 years (2028) though.
I like Poolman more than most posters here. I think Poolman when healthy is a much more competent defenseman than Desharnais. Kind of unfortunate that Poolman's hockey playing was over so early.Every GM is gonna have some but this was definitely a miss. Pretty much half a Poolman type mistake.
I mean that's not saying muchI think Poolman when healthy is a much more competent defenseman than Desharnais.
Agreed. Maybe some good comes out of this for management as a lesson learned: don't give out money and term to someone unproven unless you're really sure.
I'd argue the opposite. No harm in taking a risk on a player like that because even if it goes wrong you can easily get rid of the problem.
There were rumors pretty early in the season that the Canucks were trying to move him. They were only able to months later in a larger deal where they needed to send cap back.
Sharks only traded for him now because they're trading Walman.
So there needed to be certain circumstances for the player to move, the teams couldn't just do it at their leisure.
I don't know how you could argue for giving non NHL regulars multi year + multi million dollar contracts...
I mean that's not saying much
Poolman was maybe a 6 and Desharnais is a 7/8.
There was likely a need to get a Dman back in any Desharnais deal as well which is more difficult at the early stage of the season. There were rumors pretty early in the season that the Canucks were trying to move him. To me an NHL regular would be a player who would be a regular in a healthy lineup on most teams. I don't think Desharnais is it but I don't care enough to debate this at length. I'm very surprised he returned a 5th round pick.If he isn't a NHL regular, why did he just get traded for a pick?
Obviously they didn't get the pro scouting right but I don't have a problem with these low downside medium upside bets. Lots of successful teams have done it.
