I don't know where to put this, Ill just put it in both Threads. ( Assuming we Sign 3Petey)

Hughes - Willander
3Petey - Hronek
DPetey / Soucy - Myers - Mancini

That's a pretty amazing core of youth and talent honestly.
Need to slowly get rid of Myers and Soucy and find another D to finish it off, but I really love the makeup.
Also you can Play Hronek with Quinn of course and move Willander down.

Myers has been fine since he stopped playing with Soucy.

Soucy needs to be traded, his full NTC goes to a 12-team NTC in the offseason.

People are putting waaaaaaaaaay too much value on a 1st pick that will very likely be 16+. New York is only 5 points out of a playoff spot. And it isn't like anyone in the east is pulling away with the wild card spots. Not to mention, this is supposed to be a very weak draft.

That pick was never "very valuable." Especially because we're simply not in a position to be waiting around for prospects to play in 3-5 years. Hughes outright said he's not staying for a rebuild. So unless some of y'all are ready to say goodbye to him, our picks mean nothing but trade fodder.

All of that said, my opinion on this trade hinges on whether we re-sign Pettersson. If we do, he's exactly the player we've lacked this season. While I still think letting Zadorov go was a mistake. I do kind of get way they did. That cannot happen with Pettersson unless he's horrible. Which I doubt he is.
I think a lot of posters here genuinely got excited feeling were finally, finally in for the tank. I also get it, because if we'd done it properly, we'd be laughing to the bank with Petey, Hughes, etc. But such is life as a Canucks fan.

I agree, the return hinges entirely on whether we resign Pettersson or not. Best to do that ASAP, and hopefully it's for palatable $/term.

Last post for the night — it also seems like Fridays and January 31st are marquee days and times to make big moves. Also apparent this management group sets hard internal deadlines to make decisions and rarely ‘runs out of time’, so I would be expecting some Boeser news and Lankinen news to leak soon.

I think the two generational players had a lot to with the 2 cups.

Same crowd that says Mike Sullivan did it too.
Pretty sure Rutherford acquiring Kessel, Hornqvist, Bonino and Hagelin really helped supplement them even if none of the players had the longevity with the Penguins. Obviously he wasn't perfect but no GM is and they all have their warts but to discount what he did to help Pens go back to back is pretty laughable.

Welp. Good luck with him!

We can go back and forth on the relative value of the NYR 1st round pick but it was the best asset we received in the Miller deal.

It’s disappointing to see it immediately shipped out to dump two contracts that were unforced errors and acquire two pending UFAs, one of which Rutherford clearly had tunnel vision on. We needed to get great value for that pick especially with the uncertainty around Chytil, and I’m not convinced we did. Hope Pettersson proves me wrong.

Chytil + Pettersson is about as good a return for Miller as I could've hoped for. O'Connor and Mancini are also interesting pieces.
It's not a lot worse than Cozens + Byram, which was the rumored trade for EP40. And we offloaded two bad contracts too.

Cozens have 50 games and 26 points, Chytil has 40 games and 20 points. Chytil is "one concussion away from retirement", which is true for Byram as well.

Depends how Chytil does. If he comes in & plays like a legit 2C then things look alot different. Having Garland will surely help. If he doesn't they are going to have to find someone else which won't be easy.

They don't have the offensive punch but they do have size & jam up front.

Joshua / Sherwood / OConnor / DeBrusk / Boeser / Garland. All these guys can play in the trenches.
Wouldn’t be surprised if they flip him and a 2nd for an upgrade. And then 1st and B prospect for another forward.

They're clearly missing a 2C who can play high-leverage, matchup minutes & a play driving first line winger. Boeser is fine as a complimentary winger, but he's never been a guy who drives a line on his own, which is why I'm not surprised management is being iffy on whether to sign him LT at the suggested prices.

I still have no clue where those pieces are going to come from with the assets they currently have. Would be great if we could flip Chytil, Kudryavtsev, and a 1st next year to find one of those
Sillinger and Ehlers would fit nicely

Getting rid of Heinen and Desharnais' multi-year mistake contracts is nice - gets us out of 4.25mil of replacement-level prospect-blocking disappointment. O'connor adds some size up front, and Pettersson has kind of been on everyone's wish list. It was pretty obvious that the 1st was going to be moved, but I think this trade addressed our needs pretty well.

yeah but you guys didn’t win 1 for awhile before he got there. We would gladly take his chaos if it means we get just 1 cup.

Kuzmenko was a great UFA signing, it was the followup extension that became the miss.
I dunno, I don’t think management expected him to workout in Bali

Just like I said. I am happy he brought us two cups. But, he's a total ego driven dysfunctional asshole.

Half the reason JT had to be traded is becuase Rutherford couldn't shut the f*** up. And he's not even the GM.

The reality is he was the GM here when we won two cups.

I mean good luck with the guy. He's a f***ing ego maniac who basically eliminated every positive aspect of the Penguins management to insulate his own power while here and then got boo boo face and quit.

The calling out players in the media, making trades for guys he used to have, and mismanging assets is the Rutherford playbook. Ask any Canes fan.

Guys, I’ve done the math and have figured it out. We just need to acquire Crosby now.
