Did I miss something? When did O’Conner play for the Canucks before last night?
I was saying when watching him on Pittsburgh, and then it was reinforced with the single game he has played for my team.

Either way, I've given my scouting assessment of the player. I may be proven right or wrong, but he's someone who has always popped for me when watching Pittsburgh as the sort of player that contenders definitely like having on their 3rd line and can play up in a pinch. I'm happy we got him and to me it's far far more than a throw in and a stratospheric difference from what I have seen of Heinen on Van and Pitts (while understanding he was good in Boston but I didn't really watch him there).

Well, I am not sure I would trust your own scouting analysis over countless Pens fans and media personalities that watch the Penguins every single game.

Not saying he was a bad player but there wasn't a thing I read of anyone being upset about him in the trade. To me, that just speaks to how middling of a player he is.

Like I said, if he somehow finds a way to being in a teams top 6, its probably not a good thing at all.

Sometimes he looks really good, but it's usually individually off the rush and it's rare. Not very good at playing off other players- he spent a lot of time with Crosby and Malkin in the last few years with basically nothing to show for it besides 1.5 months after the Guentzel trade where we thought he turned the corner. If he's in your top six, that means you're down a top six player.

I'm not calling him a regular top 6er, but I have seen potential for him to be a real luxury bottom 6er (like what he does on a third line can create a margin over other team's 3rd lines) and can play up for short bursts.

I'm just a guy on the internet so I don't blame you for not trusting my assessment. But I've been playing and obsessively watching and reading about hockey for 30 years and I know my own track record so I trust my instincts when I watch a player. Doesn't mean I'm never wrong (Nic Petan at the WJC had me thinking I was seeing a Giroux like player for example, swing and a miss, as a standout).

That tracks with what I'm saying, I think.

But he seriously harries D on the other team, transports the puck well, and we've been a slow as molasses team. this year. I think he's exactly what we need on the lower lines and a good bet.
