Well its a tough time for Vancouver and lost in term of value overall in the last 24h but still a good hocket trade for chemistry. I realy wish them to be able to resign him and the new chemistry make Petterson great again. Vancouver Fans diserve a cookie.

I like the return for Doc and Pettersson, 2 UFA's who may walk at the end of the year. I am pretty sure they would have resigned but it's a gamble.

Doc and Pettersson can contribute more than what they have shown this year. This Pens team is a train wreck defensively and offensively. I am not sure they are even being coached.

Doc gets a ton of chances but they are not necessarily great chances, outside of the Pens 1st line there is little support on offense or defense, He forechecks well, and battles hard, but being played alongside of guys like Acciari, Hayes, Nieto, Glass, he rarely gets the chance to produce, but he does try hard, and doesn't get beat as much as he probably should when you take in who he is on the ice with most shifts. On the flip side, he also hasn't been able to bury his chances with Malkin either so, hopefully a new coach and system will help him make those gains.

His best line this year was Doc, Lizzotte, and Puljujarvi, and they played really well for the short time they were together, they dominated possession and chances. Yet even though they had the puck a lot they had issues burying it.

Pettersson is having a downright awful year. Combining a new defensive coach the same shit head coach, regression on his main partner Letang, who has seemed to give up so much at one point in the season it was noted that he's not even trying hard enough to make mistakes. Most games this year Pettersson was a sitting duck on dump ins with no support from backchecking forwards or his D Partner. He is quite able to make solid and accurate breakout passes, and is responsible enough that when he makes an offensive rush it is the right time for him to do so. Defensively he is positionally sound, this year excluding, but won't be the guy to clear the front of the net, he's tall, but I don't think he's even 180lbs. He will defend his teammates and fight, he's taken on some guys I wish he wouldn't have, but he is always game.

Both these guys will help the PK, they are fast enough and smart enough for that role. I would have liked to see Pettersson try the PP a little more, he has a sneaky shot and decent instincts, but is quite obviously behind Karlsson, Letang and Gryz on the offensive end of the talent.

Anyways, these players should be a positive for the Canucks, I like the 1st round pick on the return and the 3rd pick prospect, Heinen and Desh aren't too expensive enough to hurt if they are unplayable, they cost less than Jarry combined, and if they aren't doing anything of note they could easily sit for an upcoming younger player from the AHL, especially with the Cap about to go up about 8million.

Thanks, bye

So the Canucks turned a #1C into a #4D, #3C and a potential #5-6D.

This is like one of those HF trade proposals where fans offer their spare parts for another team's star player.

Except at least the HF posters of the other team are smart enough to laugh at the offer and reject it.
They also moved out an older player and got cap space. Given the situation they were in, this was about the best that could be expected. Signing new Petey is key though. Our back end has been hot garbage and a proper number 3 will make a huge difference, bumping othe D down to where they should be.

They were always gonna get a first at the deadline

Go tell that to the other MP threads that were saying he's only bringing back a 2nd rounder

Especially considering the Rangers 1st is looking to be around #20 overall, this was significantly more than I was expecting back for Pettersson. The prospect for O'Connor was about what I was expecting O'Connor's value to be, but I was thinking the best case scenario for Pettersson was a conditional 1st.

Pens in a rebuild but not a tear it all down mode. Smart moves to trade UFA who free up moves next year. Pens are top 10 or higher and lottery luck may help to get in top 5.

I think Vancouver should make Pettersson and Hronek a pair and have that be a 20-22 minutes 2nd pair. That looks like an extremely strong 2nd pair to me.

The only issue is who are you playing at RD with Hughes? Myers isn't really the guy you want there. Can Soucy move to RD and play with Hughes?

A dman of Pettersson’s calibre with not a lot of other d options on the market was always going to get a first. It’s just a bit higher than I expected them to get. Problem for the Canucks is they need to show Hughes they can compete or he is gone.

That has the potential to be a top tier D-corps in the next couple of years.

I’d be pretty happy with the past few days if I was a Canucks fan.

In a couple of years, Q.Hughes is playing with his brothers out east. Probably the most telegraphed move in hockey.

Vancouver will collect all the Petey's, while Jersey will collect all the Hughes

We'll get to see more fights in the east now as Desharnais has been tested more so in the west. I like it.

Is this the start of the Penguins rebuild? as Pettersson is by far the best player in this trade.

Reactions: Bizzare

Agreed on MP and Hronek 2nd pairing.

Myers is significantly better than Soucy, and has actually been pretty solid with Hughes since Hronek's injury a few months ago. Soucy's game has dropped off massively from last season, he belongs nowhere near a top 4. I'd give him away for free if I could.
