The #Canucks are getting a very strong #2LD

Lets do some research before calling 3Petey a #4.
Since when is 3petey a 4D🤦‍♂️
I'm fine with calling him a #3D, I was mostly thinking top 4 D when I wrote that.

#2D is pushing it though. I certainly wouldn't sign him to Hronek money.

We got them to take on Desharnais’s contract and only gave up a first and a long shot prospect. Lmao.

explain how it was “handled as badly as it could have been handled’
It’s got one more year at 2 million and the cap is going up like 10 mil. Not exactly hard for a rebuilding team to take on

canucks fixing their mistakes it was envitable they were gonna flip the 1st. now boeser next on the weekend? to recoup the first rounder from somebody? while keeping their own first.

Sure, but really they flipped:

Miller, Heinen, Desharnais, Braanstrom + Fernstrom and Dorrington

for

Chytil, Pettersson, O'Connor, Mancini

Problem is they gave up the best player, by far.

The plus side is they dumped a couple of the most "meh" Canucks in a while and added some decent pieces.

They have holes still. That 2nd line center spot is dubious and they could use another sniper.... and really they could still use a RH d-man but I am guessing they think Willander will slot into that spot.

This isn't bad for the Pens. If you look at the playoff teams who a) have a 1st this year and b) are prioritising a lhd-man, the list is pretty limited.

Caps- no. Winnipeg - no. Carolina - unlikely. Dallas - no. LA - unlikely.

So to get a 1st this year with a limited market is a good effort, and one that could possibly be 14-16 (but I think the Rangers make the playoffs). Taking two cap dumps who are both pretty cheap and ufas next year isn't an issue too.

Hronek this year sure, because he's been bad since he came back from injury, but last year's Hronek?
They're similar caliber id say.

not dont think willander is ready at all. next year see how well he does in camp. your bascially feeding him to the wolves at this point. and you burn 1 year of his elc. i wouldnt risk it.

Historically I am an MP fan but If he was better than Hronek this year the Pens wouldn’t have a bottom 3 defense in the NHL.

Hroneks card is two seasons out of date and MPs just this season is ass
It's hard to judge MP just on this season since the whole team has been garbage and the goaltending has been horrible too. I expect he'll be very good on Vancouver, especially considering he'll be going from top pairing duty to second pairing.

First thing I saw was Vancouver, Pettersson and trade, and I thought they went and broke this site after the other trade. This is less exciting.

wow canucks did well.

miller for a #2 D, #2/3 center, 3rd line forward, and a potential 5/6 righty dman

Myers summed it all up:"Millsy was great. Incredible competitor. He held so much weight in the room, probably the most I have seen on any team I have ever been on."

I don't hate the "value" in a vacuum...but i also don't really understand whether Vancouver is coming or going here. Within the context of the other trade.

Chytil 2C is...wtf is Vancouver doing spending big assets on deadline type "load it up" trades like this on a solid sort of defensive 3/4D?

So, I guess the Canucks get 4 or 5 weeks to see if 3Petey is a fit and if they can sign him, and then maybe if it isnt going their way, they could still send him somewhere for assets (the first back?) after renting him for that month?

How is Crosby definitely not a top 5 player of all time?

He has the best current case for 5th, until McDavid maybe passes him.
not unreasonable at all to say Crosby isnt top 5. You have Howe, Orr, Getzky, Mario, Jagr as sure fire players ahead of Crosby. Guys like Hasek, Esposito, Lidstrom, Forsberg, Sakic, Beliveau, OV are in the discussion.

Esposito lead the league in goals and points 6x. Peak Lindros was generational. Crosby isn't far and away better than these players.

Canucks needed a guy to anchor a 2nd pairing to stabilize their terrible blueline and I think they got one in whichever number Pettersson this is now. They paid a hefty price for it tho.

If Rick is half the coach he thinks he is then he should be making this work to challenge for a WC.
