Van fans: DOC is gonna piss you off. He can look like he should be a star power fwd 2 weeks every season. Then he’s a 4th liner the rest of the time.

I like Desharnais coming back actually. We need some edge on our blueline. Petts, Letang and Karlsson play the game like a bunch of marshmallows.

I am fine taking Heinen and Desharnais back. We need contributing players now. Petts was a rollercoaster this season, sometimes our best defenseman, sometimes our worst. 1st round pick was the key.
...Desharnais is the Ultimate Warrior of the NHL...

...blows his load on the way to the ice and then is useless for the rest of the night...

This post is so bad that I actually believe you are really Ryan Callahan.
Hit a nerve uh? Crosby staying with the joke that is the current edition of the Pens is actively hurting his legacy. If he stays he doesn't finish his career strong and just racks up a couple of meaningless 70-80 pts yrs on a team trying desperately to delay the rebuild with 0 assets whatsoever.

Not a huge fan of trading that 1st so quickly but that’s only because I was hoping it would end up bumping to next year when realistically it will probably be around a 14-20 pick this season.

Pettersson is a good pickup though and I’m assuming they’ll get him re-signed.
Trading that 1st was first dumb by rags and now nucks. That's some sweet currency being dumped around.

So Miller, Heinen, Desharnais, Brannstrom, Fernstrom, and Dorrington for Pettersson, Chytil, O’Connor and Mancini.

Dorrington is a low-end prospect filler so let’s take him out. Brannstrom had already been waived. Heinen and Desharnais are depth bodies each with an additional year. I don’t view them as heavily negative assets but I do view their “loss” as flexibility creators.

Mancini and Fernstrom are both solid prospects. Mancini will help more immediately but Fernstrom is a guy to watch down the road…as I said before he’s still 18 and an SHL regular which is trending up for a guy who just got picked in the 3rd round. But let’s call that a wash form a pure asset value standpoint.

The meat of the deal in total is Miller for Pettersson, Chytil and O’Connor - with a presumption that some of the cap flexibility created will be used to help resign Pettersson (and maybe O’Connor).

So that’s an ultra solid #3 type defenseman with great size, a talented but often injured middle six center who has some theoretical top six upside and an interesting third line winger who occasionally can pop in a more middle six role for a very talented (and unhappy) first line star forward with a bajillion years left on his deal (albeit at a good AAV).

No judgements…just how I would break it down.
Just have to say, I wish more posters would take a level headed approach to evaluating trades like you have rather than just “lol canucks suck!”. Good job! 👏

Can a Canucks fan explain why I'm seeing so many comments celebrating getting rid of the bad Desharnais and Heinen contracts and paying a premium to do so? It doesn't look like they really need to shed cap. If they were both buried, they'd be under $2M combined, and the team looks to have a substantial amount of room. What am I missing?
not a Canucks fan but your missing that they also received Marcus Pettersson and Drew O'Connor... two effective players... it's more than a cap dump trade
