I had a similar situation but with Juulsen and other Abby Nucks at the time, they were DT for a Lions game. I listened to their conversation and my only takeaway was Juulsen fits the dumb but personable jock stereotype to a tee.

I know someone who knows him... Can confirm lol. (Grain for salt)

No way. Equally responsible?

We have the timeline of Miller rumours going back to when he was with the Rangers. For Pettersson, it's only now, and it's only when dealing with a malcontent that has put off others in the locker room per Cam Robinson (Hughes and Demko cited).

Yet another narrative MS. Just one more onto the pile of garbage narratives to paint these two with the same brush. Pettersson could have a part on it, no question, but an equal culprit? Not bloody likely.

They got rid of the most probable instigator. That is the most logical inference to make here.

I like Miller more than Petersson but agreed with this.

Oh yeah, for sure. Don’t think there is any question that Pettersson is also to blamed and I’m not trying to suggest otherwise. Sensitive and sarcastic are an awkward combo and I can see how that would lead him to take things too personally, not deal with them in a professional way, or be able to let things go.

I just don’t buy the narrative that heart and soul Miller was buddies with everyone on the team and just got himself in trouble because he was (justifiably) hard on the guy with all the talent in the world for being lazy / out of shape. Prioritizing moving him if that is the backdrop just makes no sense without there being more.

I mean, Miller obviously crossed some sort of line in November in response to his benching.

There are probably 4 separate things in play here :

1) The Miller-Pettersson relationship, whatever that was.

2) The Miller blowup, which might not have had anything to do with Pettersson directly.

3) The relative age and contracts of the players and who makes more sense to move from a business perspective.

4) The fact that post-blowup, Miller (who had always been the guy who had seemingly been more committed to staying here) was more than happy to get away from the media circus while Pettersson said he wanted to stay.

It's pretty difficult to say 'Miller was traded because he was judged to be the more culpable in the Pettersson relationship' when you have all this other stuff going on.

Anybody cited to be anti Pettersson per an insider right now? No.

Any issues with Pettersson as a teammate before just now? No.

Miller and Horvat butted heads, the younger player was not prioritized/was shipped out. This is a key note here.

Pettersson put back on the market when trade rumours died down on Miller, coincidence?

Pettersson re-commits to staying while Allvin derides him and Miller keeps on talking to other teams wanting out.

Does that sound like both felt and were treated as equal culprits? Not to me...

Just look at the differences and draw your conclusions (hopefully, without narrative driven bias)

From everything I can gather, Pettersson is a profoundly difficult human being that has been a headache to the team at various levels for most of the last 5 years. And the stuff I've heard is that he was absolutely *not* some innocent bystander being bullied by Miller and that their poor relationship was very much a two-way street. And yes, Miller is a very difficult human being as well.

Why did the team almost trade Pettersson to Carolina a week ago?

And as for the team, I mean, hell - there were media reports back in October that they were actually on purpose asking Miller and Hughes to involve themselves in trying to motivate the listless Pettersson. Then the blowout in early November happened and the whole dynamic changed ... but even then, Pettersson was almost the guy dealt.

Seems pretty easy to say that actually when he had to go on an unprecedented personal leave and EP didn't.

There's also the issue that for some reason the league has never valued JT. Not now, not when we acquired him, not when he was putting up 100 points as a 1C making 5.25, not when he was shutting down McDavid as the matchup centre.

That value discrepancy can't just be GM's are dumb, even Benning could read hockey card stats. EP still has immense value. Other first round picks that figured it out later in their careers have immense value. Seems pretty easy to conclude there is something seriously wrong with Miller's reputation around the league.

I think a decent management team would have figured out how to work with the situation and resolve it instead of pouring gasoline on it and single handedly turning it into an unresolvable circus but still, JT's reputation with GM's around the league versus his play is a longstanding massive anomaly.

I forget, are you a vetted insider on here? No? Well that should tell you what I think of what you've "heard".

They put Pettersson back in the media, how 'almost' was it when they were always trying to be rid of Miller? (I have insider info from three sources that it was posturing, but again, don't believe me)

That they involved Miller to motivate him shows how stupid they are. Pettersson wasn't playing well. Throw the kitchen sink at him to get it going.

Why did they send Miller home? Why did Miller get traded 2 days after arguing with HL? Why was there a Horvat/Miller drama rumour? Why Schenn and Delia? Why the crap return? No Detroit involved? Why was there nothing with Pettersson before Miller was connected to Pettersson? Why did Miller actually get dealt and Pettersson did not?

Why indeed.

I really don't want Vancouver to just be like Carolina where we go full country, at least the fins are really good. Petey is ranked top 2 probably of swedes rn and he's garbage. Allvin must be stopped

Here is the breakdown of the trades from my perspecitve

Out

Jt Miller

Erik Brannstrom(minors)

Jackson Dorrington D Uni age 20

Danton Heinmen—29 3rd/4th liner

Vincent Desharnais 28 7th D

Melvin Fernstrom D 18 3rd rounder in Europe

In

Filip Chytil C 25 2nd/3rd line center

Victor Mancini D 22 Mostly minors

Marcus Pettersson D 28 3-4 guy

Drew O’Connor F 26 Grinder

One of my concerns is trading to the two younger D but that is overall minor in the grand scheme of things. We do get better on the backend with Petterson and O'Conner is a good little grinder and both will play every night. We lose the Chytil/Miller trade but we solve a dressing room problem.

Cap hits--Out

Heinman 2.25
VD 2
Jt Miller 8

Cap hits in
Petttersson 4.025
O'Connor .925
Chytl 4.37

On the nhl lever we do save about 3 mill and we can spend that elsewhere

The fact that Miller was traded and not Pettersson doesn’t mean that Pettersson wasn’t an issue in his own way, and Allvin’s own comments calling him out in December confirm this.

You can easily just look at the age and likely improvement of Pettersson and likely decline of Miller to justify the trading of Pettersson over Miller.

Personally, I don’t think one needs to be “worse” than the other. They each had/have issues. By the sound of it, Miller is uber competitive and can be hard on his teammates as a result, and seems to be unable to restrain his own emotions. Pettersson seems to have effort/compete/preparation issues as confirmed by his own GM. Both of those are problematic and it’s actually not hard to see why, in addition to personality differences, they didn’t get along.

I think everything actually points to management and coaching actually preferring Miller’s will to win and attitude in that regard, but I also think it’s clear that Millet just couldn’t leave Petey alone despite Tochett telling him to worry about himself. And I think that was management and coaching’s biggest issue - Miller repeatedly ignoring them.

One was far easier to move (likely had to 'eat some of Pettersson's cap hit in any trade which defeats one of the purposes of dealing him). In my opinion.

Yes, I know the Carolina Hurricanes

Are..are you sober?
He doesn't know I switched his normal brand of beer to "O'Doul's" ;)

Ray Ferraro

"Vancouver wanted zero retention, and with a player like Miller, with his style of play. When father time catches up, the drop in play is usually drastic and not gradual"
I love Ray's takes, but with the lens on how management's failures have led to this, this is one time where I take it with a grain of salt.

Yeah, what he said is absolutely true.

But when the team propaganda machine has been spooled up to the max to put lipstick on this pig (losing a player of Miller's caliber, only partially offset by improving a poorly constructed defense), the act of pointing out the obvious begins to smell like something else. Just don't go there.

Pettersson apparently came a hair away from being dealt a week ago before Colorado came off the top rope with Rantanen. If Pettersson would have been dealt, does that someone mean that he was the prime culprit?

Like I said, there's a lot going on here.

I suspect that Pettersson and his behaviour/commitment/preparation was considered a much bigger problem by the team prior to November and then Miller went and did something stupid to leapfrog Pettersson. Both guys are to blame, no matter how much you try to pretend otherwise.

Yes, I forgot to mention that.

Pettersson, scoring like a 55 point centre while getting paid 11.6 million, may not have been a very easy deal to get done especially if the Canucks honoured his trade protection.
