The comment about how some Orca players are saying what a great guy Miller was and how badly he's gonna be missed, and then it became a talking point somehow that the team will be pissed/divided.

What exactly should those player have said? Oh he is a locker room cancer and a problem? No one in their right mind would say that about their former teammate who was trade just now.

This isn't lip service to a traded player. It's been very obvious for a long time that Miller was very popular with the core veteran group on this team - Boeser, Garland, Demko, Myers, etc.

Nobody should be surprised if those guys are upset about this.

Some fans here have constructed a narrative that Miller was a high school bully that nobody liked who was acting like Biff from Back to the Future and stuffing Poor Defenseless Petey into lockers, and that is just blatantly not the case. And the breakdown in the relationship between Pettersson and Miller is *a lot* more complicated than that with a lot of blame on both sides. There's a reason Pettersson has almost been traded at multiple junctures, too, with Miller remaining.

Yes agreed. As mentioned previously, they probably preferred to keep Pettersson on the basis of age and upside alone. But do think the Miller locker room cancer thing is well overblown, no evidence he had issues with anyone else and he obviously had some buddies on the team.

Feel bad for what this market put Miller through. Hope he gets some peace in NY.

Doubt it, his hothead attitude gonna cause some players on the Rangers to question their future there.

Millers piss poor attitude, in the locker room and the media, was always just that, piss poor. As one of the leaders in the room, he could’ve straighten out his attitude but no. He had to be someone who constantly bitched and whined his bravado.

The players might say stuff on social media and to the media saying he was a great guy, good team player. While some of it is true, they must’ve breathed a sigh of relief the noise is gone.

His baby mama drama, bitching, piss poor play on the ice for this season reached a breaking point. If he was ONLY willing to waive for New York instead of other contending teams, you know what they say.

Happy wife, happy life.

Enjoy that Miller, should’ve signed a pre-nup.

Yeah that's totally understandable, I'm sure Pete is also to blame for this - two f***ing professionals paid 20 mil a year can't be professional enough to work together, it is disgraceful. What I'm saying is that those trolls who try to use this as a talking point and stir up more shit are completely out to lunch.

I am out in Boston for a company event, having a box (great viewing) at today's Rangers Bruins game. I just found out, I am lucky and the Rangers expect JTM here and to suit up for the game this afternoon. I am a huge fan of JT Miller and am super excited to watch him like a hawk the whole game. We are also lucky to have Nick Fotiu (ex NY Ranger) join us in our box again this year and he is great to talk with and gain insight from.

Complete speculation on my part - but my hunch is that something occurred after Miller’s benching in Nashville that precipitated his taking a leave of absence from the team, and whatever that something was played a larger part in the Canucks’ decision to move on than whatever the issue with Pettersson was.

The fact they couldn't put aside their differences and work together is still infuriating - both guys are to blame. The team now has to go out and look for exactly what they just dealt to get back to what they were last year, and its highly unlikely it will be as cheap as we gave it away for either.

Yup. I'm just so f***ing angry at both of these dipshits.

We survive 8 years of Jim Benning and come out the other side looking like a legit contender only for it to be wrecked because two pissbaby millionaire hockey players can't just get along.

Something off ice and personal life were probably affected. I heard stories about his ‘ leave of absence’ from various people close to the situation which is not hockey related.

For what it’s worth, it just reached a tipping point here

That's the worst part about the whole thing. We were THIS f***ING CLOSE. 🤏

I worked with people I don't like tons of times. I don't have to like the person, I just need to get my shit done. Brian Burke chimed in on this and said something along the same line.

You don't have to like each other, you just gotta be a professional and do your F***ING job.

That Benning period is probably why Pettersson has a loser mindset. Cracks started forming in early 2021 when he was a total pouty bitch. Miller got sick of this guys antics.

I worked with a boss who actively tried to get me fired and hated my guts for about a decade. Never stopped me from doing my job, and with one exception, I was unfailingly polite and professional. My boss eventually got forced out and I’m now the boss. I’d worked for decades to cultivate a reputation as a consummate professional, and I wasn’t going to let this assclown ruin it.

(The one exception was a time they were telling me “you’re not working enough extra hours. You need to show up earlier and stay later”. I was already showing up about 30-45 minutes early each day, and leaving at the same time the rest of the staff did. I said “if I can’t get my job done between the hours of 8:45 and 5:15, I’m not very good at my job”. They flared up and asked “are you saying I’m bad at my job?!” To which I replied “if the shoe fits.” That was a big fight.)

Long after they left, and I was cleaning out their desk, I found a book called “Working with the Enemy: How to work with employees you don’t like, trust or respect”. All the staff agreed it was about me.

Yep, this right here. It really is unbelievable, and because of it I think Pettersson has to go as well because you know damn well there's still hard feelings for some.

His cranium grows with every new Pettersson added to the team.

We're going to see some gigabrain plays from Petey soon.

At least they were, on some level, putting some effort in!

Sorry to hear what Vector did to you,
maybe he can publicly ask for a trade

I agree, the market wasn't there right now.

Which is why I would have held onto him.

Because I didn't view the situation as one where you needed to urgently move him.

You needed to move him eventually... but you could've waited for a better offer at the deadline or in the summer.
I think we need to accept that his value was never going to increase. Even when he put up 100 points the offers were about the same. They’ve been trying to move him for a couple of years now. No one was going to offer more imo. Hanging on to him wasn’t going to yield a better return.

I think it's likely Miller came to realize he just didn't want to play for the Canucks. Pettersson has his own issues (which could very well be about not wanting to play in Vancouver as well) and for management, the JT - Petey "contentious" relationship became a vehicle that allowed them to publicly save face while trading a high-end, first line Centre for a pretty poor return.

That does ignore Miller's history and the lack of interest in acquiring him when the Canucks have let it be known he's been available a number of times, but there could be other reasons that don't include being hated by his teammates.

I like that the Canucks defence has improved, but losing Miller does create a giant hole on the team. Of course one shouldn't ignore that he's been missing from the team for pretty much the whole season anyway, so it's almost more of a theoretical loss at this point. Either Miller was Bozo or on his LOA, with a few solid games this season sprinkled in.

Still going to miss him on the team.
