Confirmed with Link: [VAN/NYR] JT Miller, Erik Brannstrom, & Jackson Dorrington for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, and 1st 2025 (Top-13 Protected, Unprotected after)

Chytil is only 25, but is coming off four concussions. Count 'em four. He comes with a huge risk. Wouldn't be a surprise to me if he isn't a candidate to be flipped again at the TDL.

This still doesn't make sense though.

My $60,000 truck is taking up too much space in my garage. I would like more space in my garage.

So I will give the truck away for $10,000. Sure, I lost $50,000 in value, but now I have all this space in my garage!

...what do you mean I could've sold the truck for $40,000 and still gotten that extra space in my garage?

Except, for that analogy to work, you'd need someone willing to offer you $50,000.

Now let's say because nobody is offering you that amount, you wait and your truck starts leaking, which causes damage to your garbage. Do you spend more money on it, wait even longer in the hopes that 50k offer comes or simply settle for else to be rid of what's becoming a problem?

Analogies aside, we won't know the extent of this trade until we see Chytil play and what happens with the 1st.

Didn't want to trade Miller so no deal was ever going to be "great" IMO, but it probably could have been worse...getting the 1st round pick was pretty key, what they do with it will be the next most vital outcome...Chytil is a decent player if he can stay healthy and Mancini is at best a bottom pairing guy who adds an element we can use on the right side. So as much as I really, really wish Miller could have stayed...we did probably as well as can be expected given the circumstances.

Unfortunately your truck has a bomb strapped to it that has gone off before and will likely go off again. Who is giving you 40k for that?

I really didn't see the situation as a "things are getting worse with every passing day" type situation.

We were winning games. Miller was producing.

The way you present it is that removing Miller immediately improves things by subtracting a negative.

Long-term, something needed to change, but I don't see how trading Miller for a lacklustre return made things better for the team right now.

I think you easily could've waited for a better return.

We're about to find out real soon though.

Our team is full of soft or small (or both) middling forwards and lumbering dinosaur Dmen that struggle to play hockey.

We just traded our leading scoring forward for a soft, concussion prone 40 point scorer and a 6'3" that every description of whom says "not a liability" for what we need from our D.

Our coach seems to want forwards to play super phusical and defensively responsible, and our D to run offense.

We are an injury to Hughes or Lankanen from tanking this year.

It's like no one is on the same page.

Miller's age and rep likely hurts the return improving much from what they got. Nobody's trading young cost controlled players for a player entering his aged 32 to 33 season still on a long term contract. Rising cap be damned.

The analogy doesn’t make sense because the team didn’t sell him to the first team to offer $10k. The guy has been on the market three different times now, for months at a time, and no one was willing to pay more.

Better analogy is that you may have thought the truck was worth $40k, but it turns out everyone has heard how often it breaks down and you have to waste time fixing it so decided it was only worth $10k.

I see alot of people saying we were lucky to get this value for Miller considering the circumstances and comparing it to our hands were tied like the Kesler trade. What many are failing to realize was we had Miller locked up long term on a great contract and he was our best forward and producing quite well. We didn't need to trade him. No reason at all to dump him for a broken 3C who is one hit from never playing again and 2 lottery tickets that have a 50/50 of amounting to nothing. Oh but a locker room cancer? Well both Pete and Miller said it wasn't a problem so I still don't believe anything happened until I have proof. So ya I'm even more mad now then I was when I first saw this stupid trade.

I'd have to think management made that move for reason have to clean up dressing room.
Coaches and teammates likely knew and had input loved Miller but if he's creating problems time to move

At the risk of extending this analogy too far...

Miller is our #2 scorer (still) despite missing 10 games.

So this truck is still getting the job done better than most vehicles out there on the road. No reason to sell it for scraps.

If you have to hold onto it a bit longer? That's fine.

Why do people keep acting like Miller was playing terribly? He was playing better than Pettersson.

Look no further than Pettersson getting destroyed in the dot tonight vs Miller dominating faceoffs.

The whole team has been playing poorly and Miller hasn't been on his game. But he's still been helping us win more than the other forwards.

They tried to trade him three years ago and the best offer was Chytil, Lundqvist and a first. The idea that there was some materially better offer out there if they just waited a bit longer seems like wishful thinking to me, especially since he’s old and getting older.

Think it’s fair to question whether it was necessary to move him at all, but I’m not sure you can be overly critical with how little we know about what was happening behind the scenes.

As I said, though, it still really sucks.

Hughes Tocchet and Jim Rutherford said it was a problem.

It’s not his play - it’s obviously the off ice stuff that kept teams from offering what he should be worth given his play. When 31 other teams come to the same conclusion it’s fair to think the issue is with the player. There was plenty of time for just one team to step up if they thought he was just sold for a bargain.

I personally think teams (such as the Avalanche) will be kicking themselves that they couldn't beat this offer.

It wasn't hard to.

He clashed with Boeser.
he clashed with Horvat.
hes not clashing with Pettersson. if it happens 3 times, its not a coincidence anymore. we had to move on. we will weaponize the cap room for later use.

Hypothetical, but if a group of players like Hughes, Demko, Myers etc came to Allvin and said get this guy out of here, that would be a reason to move him with urgency, no?
That would be one of the few reasons where this would make sense.

But unless there's any proof of that, I highly doubt the players would do that.

eddie's had some interesting takes here

I don't necessarily disagree with him. There were always rumblings that Petterson and Miller didn't really get along but until this year it was never some sort of untenable situation that must be resolved by trading one of them, let alone both. Management poured gasoline on a smouldering fire and the media were overjoyed to take the bait. The whole thing was a f***ing clown show from start to finish.

Coming in to wish the Nucks fan good luck.

Filip Chytil is a hell of a kid with an insane work ethic. Fantastic attitude. Doesnt complain and comes to work every day. Hes worried about improving and winning thats it. He will be traveling back home overseas during the 4 Nations tourney to work with his coach and brother. They've got it all down to a science with him.

I know its tough losing JT and taking on Chytil is a risk, but you got a really good player in return who has a pretty high ceiling if it all comes together with his finishing ability.

If there's a way for him to continue playing through any of the issues he's had, he will. He will be the last player to give up and hes really exciting to watch. Heck of a skater and his shot has improved each year, due to his work ethic. He has the tools to be a special player in this league and is still young.

Speaking for all Rangers fans, we wish him the very best.

This was before he returned to the Rangers about a year ago

I guess Rutherford was trying to soften up Canuck fans a couple of weeks ago about what to expect in a trade of Miller. I my expectations were 'low'.

I see Friedmann is saying that the deal on the table two weeks ago--Ryan Lindgren instead of Mancini--was actually a better one from the Rangers.
