Confirmed with Link: [VAN/NYR] JT Miller, Erik Brannstrom, & Jackson Dorrington for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, and 1st 2025 (Top-13 Protected, Unprotected after)

The 1st rounder is the main return in this trade but it could easily be a mid pick.

Chytil is a 3rd line center. A massive downgrade from Miller. So I don't see the present value at all.

We'll be lucky if he ends up better than Pius Suter.

Honestly would much rather have Kappo. Somehow Seattle managed to get almost as much value as we did for a significantly worse player in Borgen.

I come in peace. Chytil's problem is his health. He's already at least an average second line center and I can see him breaking out. He has always been a better player than Kakko. If Kakko could have a little break out (I'm skeptical though it's not temporary) then so can Chytil. He's a very good player when he's healthy. Our #1 C is a disaster in Zibanejad. Chytil was easily our second best center and this year arguably our best center.

What would you need to have happen in order to judge the trade, the outbound chance of NYR dropping to 13th overall or lower?

We knew the return would be underwhelming. It is that and more.

Like legit you are telling me this isn't better then expected? It's a fuk ton better then the inital proposed offer of Lindgren as the third piece instead of Mancini.......Ranger fans were thrilled to get rid of him.......with the Rags potentially vying for retention.

Considering the circumstances I'm pretty pleased with the return. Bitch all u want about selling low - Managements hands pretty much got forced ........and with that being the case we made out decent. Let's see how this works out but I like it right now.......

Really not the same thing because you've cut the field of able Dmen.

Put another way: I would take a placeholder RHD over Hronek if it meant I could keep Horvat. Someone like Carrier would have been just fine.
Lol and I would take a placeholder 2nd line center if it meant getting Hronek! I think we should just agree to disagree here. lol

The fact that Van just moved out a 100pt player while fighting for a playoff spot should be all the evidence we need.
Good post.

Also worth noting that this is a player who has spent almost 12 of the last 36 months on the market. No one wanted to pay much for him when he was 28 and had 1.5 seasons at 5.25 left (with basically the same offer they just got), or that summer after a 99 point season with one season left at 5.25, or now coming off a 103 point season. Any team that thought the Rangers were getting a steal could have easily stepped up at any point.

Rightly or wrongly he’s just not valued around the league and realistically the only reason that would be is the off ice stuff. Not sure there is much else management could have done to get more.

Still sucks because this really hurts the team on the ice. Not sure how they crawl out of this hole.

Thanks for the info. What did you think about Mancini?

I'm sure that retention was part of the negotiations.
That would just be Drury posturing.

Ask for retention, Canucks fight it... then you finally "give in" in order to get the deal done.

Rutherford and Allvin feel like they got a "win" when they still lost.

Yes. Even though. This particular situation goes way beyond the ice. I think that's what some people are having a hard time realizing when they look at it. The players aren't robots. They are humans who are effected by toxic work environments just like most of us are. Maybe even more so. The fact that Van just moved out a 100pt player while fighting for a playoff spot should be all the evidence we need. Miller isn't a good teammate. This has been his MO at every other location. He rubs people the wrong way and it effects everyone around. He's also soon to be 32 and lets not pretend his contract will age well.

This was the very definition of addition by subtraction. The fact we walk away with a 1st while shedding the player and his contract is pretty impressive. Nobody will ever be able to convince me otherwise.

I can't speak to the degree of unrest, I'm just speaking about the timing. Take it to the TDL.

Miller must have been at some level for this to be purely addition by subtraction. I don't doubt he was the major problem. To me, it was never an even issue between him and Pettersson. But they took it this far sacrificing the room, just take it a bit futher.

Anyway, I hope you're right. That this removes a lot of toxin from that room and they can get back to just playing.

Perfect. I think your case is a lot harder to make given Horvat's scoring rate among 2nd line Cs in the league (hell, 1Cs), but you're welcome to sticking with Hronek purely for being right handed.

Gary Mason seems to agree:
