Liked Soucy, just didn't have it this year but he was one of the more vocal guys in the ice, With JT and Soucy gone this team is getting quieter and quieter.

Not liking how we are trading players away so easily after signing them, you would think this sets up a bad precedent and players would be wary to sign with us.

I'd like to be excited about this but the pick is gonna be flipped because Allvin is incapable of utilizing draft picks for anything other than trade fodder.
Who knows with this team but I think they have drafted better in the 3rd round in the recent past (22-24) and definitely much better than the previous 10 years.

Rutherford, aka Trader Jim, has been doing it his whole career and it hasn’t prevented him from having success.

I think it’s actually fair to the player to get another opportunity if he’s no longer hitting expectations. Better than wallowing in the press box.

I was listening to a podcast and I think it might have been Ferraro (could be wrong about that though) and he was talking about Soucy’s decline this last season and brought up something I’d never considered before:

It is fairly common for fathers of newborns to struggle (apparently the situation Soucy is in).

I’d never considered that before, but as someone who has brought home a newborn, it can (and often does) kick your career in the ass (at least for a short time).

I thought Soucy was a really nice addition last season, and a big part of why this team took a step forward last season. His play this season was extremely disappointing though.

New dad or not, you have to figure that shit out and show up ready to play your best hockey.

I remember a lot of talk about this for Ryan Getzlaf in 11-12. His numbers are in red with the three years before and three years after

Solid return, getting the Sharks pick is nice. Given no retention I think expecting a 2nd like Dumoulin got was far-fetched, especially when you consider how well each of them has played this season.

Hopefully they keep Forbert now in the 5/6 slot so the rookies have competition and now they aren't just going to be handed spots. EP2 has played well, but you want competition so that everyone knows that standards must be met. Fully expect Willander will be competing for ice time as soon as his season ends as well.

Allvin has now traded players to the Rangers with contracts totaling more than $11m......with absolutely no salary retention.....and received back some useful pieces, like a conditional first rounder, Chytil and Mancini.

Still not sure how he did it, when everybody knew Miller would only go to probably a handful of teams; and Soucy had a full no-trade contract.

You can't help but be a little impressed.

very happy with no retention on soucy

but what can we get for suter full retention? hopefully a haul and then he signs back here anyway for under $3m because he loves the cheery atmosphere

boes too of course, cash that shit in, eat all the salary for the rest of the season

Pick #65 is perfect because even though we probably trade it I can only help but envision all the 2nd round mock draft fallers we can select.

Peyton Kettles RD - Swift Current is today's armchair GM pick.

Based on play this season getting anything was ok. That said, the decline in his play this year was so dramatic you have to believe there was something affecting his play. Downfall started af round the time of his supension but hard to believe that would have been cause. Maybe had some underlying injury.

Return is nothing special but the getting rid of Soucy's salary is a positive. Might be slight criticism for not seeing the fall off sooner and moving him when he had more value. Also some of the praise for Allvin might be more muted as some of the moves he made last year that looked so good, such as picking up Soucy, now appear less laudable.
