Confirmed with Link: [VAN/NYR] Canucks acquire SJS 3rd round Pick in 2025 for D Carson Soucy (no retention)

I suppose it has to be considered 'a positive' that a 21-year old rookie like EP25 has come in and made a 30-year old veteran d-man like Soucy redundant.

On the flip side, it's also a commentary on how generally poor Soucy has been this season. If the Canuck keep that pick via San Jose, it could end up being in the mid-60's somewhere. Basically at the back end of the second round.

But in all probably--Allvin includes it in another deal for somebody.

Solid move.

Writing has been on the wall with Soucy after his play precipitously fell off a cliff out of nowhere, and with Marcus Pettersson plugging the 2nd pair workhorse role that we were hoping Soucy could pull off, it made zero economic sense to pay 3.25MM for a bottom pairing guy this year, and especially next.

I do like how they have overhauled where money has been allocated cap wise and the D core structure is now looking quite nice. Should aim to keep the 3rd pair under about 3.5-4MM combined, and Willander could be a big part in allowing us to stay even further below that amount.

We were all thinking about him as a cap dump only a few short months ago, so getting SJS's 3rd only a few picks outside the 2nd is solid when we factor in zero retension.

Hope management builds off of this and can get value for Suter, and if it comes to it, Boeser.

OK. So far Allvin has been able to dump the second year of contracts for Desharnais and Heinen; and now the final year of Soucy's deal. That's almost $8m in cap savings for next season for guys who were basically at the bottom of the roster.

I thought 'cap-space' was supposed to the 'king' around NHL? I'm not sure how Allvin does it?

Does anyone else find it bizarre that in a league that is over 42 percent Canadian that this Canadian based franchise has just two Canadians on their roster - Debrusk and Juulsen? I heard that Canadians are pretty good at the hockey and have won a few best on best tournaments in their day. It would be different if this f***ing team wasn’t so extremely shitty to watch but there it is.
