no retention is definitely key

would way rather retain on boeser + suter and see what that drives for value

kinda surprised soucy waived to go to manhattan after so many rumors that he wanted to stay in western canada... clearly he was team JT :sarcasm:

Soucy had some moments of looking good in year 1 (when he wasn’t injured) but I was pretty disappointed with him in year 2.

He strikes me as a player that didn’t do a lot to help the culture of the team. Earlier this year he watched Hughes get mugged in a scrum by Corey Perry and did nothing about it.

That same game he had an opportunity to cleanly nail Perry in the corner on a puck retrieval and he let up and didn’t even touch him.

He was done as a Canuck after that. You can’t have players that won’t stand up or act on behalf of your captain.

Feels a bit light. Suspect you could have gotten a third for him in the offseason when his NTC loosens up with the prices UFAs are going to get. But all in all not a big deal.

the 3rd being the SJ pick definitely helps. doesn't seem like he really used his NTC to hold up a trade or just angle for a single destination anyways

for a guy who has basically been pushed out of the lineup, i'm ok with this

Have to put every deal in context. Dum is a UFA to be and got retained, which any team would do for a ufa to be. If Soucy was as well, likely similar return. But, he's at $3.25 mil next year and Van didn't want to retain as they wish to use all of the available cap space next season.

Seeing Dumoulins return got me excited for a possible Soucy return, fair price I guess.
