If it were Slaf and the lesser of the Habs 1st rounders in 2025, and since Pettersson extended, I could see Montreal doing this, though.

Don’t want to trade EP40 plus team is built to perform well now with rest of roster.

Also, some folks have lost all perspective on EP40. He had a bad stretch for sure. Suspect nagging injury. But he’s performed well in the past and is doing well again lately as well. Guy could be 1000+ pts in the NHL by the time he hangs them up.

Nagging injury for two years? Not a good sign if there's no end in sight. He just had 4 straight scoreless games and is on pace for 69 points. Doesn't seem like he's doing well lately, and he's the 5th highest paid player in the league. Scary stuff for a prospective trade partner.

Because Canucks fans are very similar to Habs fans. Canucks are also a crazy fanbase so they overreact and want to rebuild after minor adversity.

His style of play isn't really a fit for playoff hockey, afaic.

I prefer Slaf size and strength, when he's on his game, he's a major force along the boards and in front of the net, where actual playoff hockey games are won...

Pettersson for Caufield, Savard, Dvorak be good trade for both clubs. Cap balances out.

Suzuki doesn't have to go it alone down the middle. Caufield gives Canucks a sniper. Savard stabilizes their defense. Dvorak is depth down the middle.

This is awful for Vancouver. Just embarrassing.

Dam 11.6 million cap hit... ouff that hurts, but he's a great player. Suzuki's cap hit is under 7.9 million, Laine's cap hit is 8.7 mil and he's gonna need an extension soon..

I dont think Montreal does this. Remove Slafkovsky and add Hage. Or any prospect except Demidov.

I think Pettersson is a great player, but he's not worth his contract. I could see his deal becoming an issue for us like Tavares contract end up being an issue for the Leafs. I might as well resign Laine and not give up Slaf + top 5 pick +

Yup. Adding that cap hit makes everyone else regret their deals, too. I'm hoping Suzuki stays an internal cap, a bit like Bergeron did for the Bruins for a while.

Well, that can only work for so long. Essentially you need to look at the % of cap at the moment the contract was signed.

Pettersson was 13.18%
Suzuki was 9.55%

I understand Pettersson had a better track record, but I don't think he's going to be a constant 100pt player, and he's paid like one.

If Demidov ends up the player we think and ends up signing for 9.55% of cap (same for let's say Hutson), it will be good contracts. To go over 10% of the cap you need to be a trophy caliber player year after year IMO.
