I don’t think Slafkovsky and a top-5 pick are pieces MTL is interested in moving in a single deal - or at all.

A deal around Pettersson and the 2025 pick might be interesting, but Slafkovsky isn’t going to be added to that. I haven’t seen much of Pettersson in the last year or two but things haven’t sounded great and that contract needs a lot of things to go right for it to be a positive.

Not necessarily in this deal, but VAN would be smart to target Matheson this year.

Montreal is better off staying the course on the rebuild. Pettersson is undeniably talented but he's also pouty, disappears fir long stretches, has serious stability issues when it comes to his skating (Bambi on ice). He also has the 5th highest aav in the league. He's not worth his contract and if he was the Canucks would never consider trading him. Oh. He's also terrible with the media abd fsn interactions. Montreal would eviscerate him

To Montreal:

Elias Pettersson

To Vancouver:

Juraj Slafkovsky
Adam Engstrom
2025 1st round pick
Christian Dvorak
Why would Vancouver sell off a key piece for futures ? (Slafkovsky is still developping, after all)

If it were Slaf and the lesser of the Habs 1st rounders in 2025, and since Pettersson extended, I could see Montreal doing this, though.

I would hate to let go Slafkovsky, which I like a lot, and the 1st 2025 too

But EP solves the main issue for the Habs: a lack of another good center to play 2nd behind Suzuki

I don't know if I would accept the deal but in any case, good job OP: I don't think it's a bad Trade at all

So you would trade a 20 years old 1OV and a top 5 for EP ?
Not me

Is that Montreal's 1st, or the conditional 1st from Calgary ?

Why is Dvorak there? Since Vancouver would need a centre ? Cause he kinda sucks offensively.

And by kinda, I mean a lot for the Habs

Cool.

If you read my post, which you surely did, I wrote that I don't know if I'd do it or not

EP is just one year older than Suzuki and same age as Laine, so the fact that he has 26 doesn't bother me at all

The fact is, we need a solid duo of centers and right now, aside of Suzuki, we have no one that can take that spot.

On the other end, we have wingers up the ass

I would HATE trading Slaf, because I legit believe he has the potential to be PPG premium Power forward, but we ain't going to Win with Dach as our 2nd Line center, it's not going to happen

I would rather have Slaf and Misa/Shaefer/Martone instead of EP.

I'd love to have Petterson on the Habs.

That being said, the habs are going through a rebuild, it's painful to all and then............ you trade 3 assets that are or should be part of that plan for one that may be out of his prime by the time the habs are competitive. I'd see that as reverting to what past Mtl GMs were doing - renovating the team to keep it in the playoffs without truly ever being competitive.

The type of deal that would make sense to the habs would easily be outmatched by other teams in the league. Mtl may have maxed out its assets, so consolidating it makes sense, but this is too much.

Cozens+ Kulich and Krebs. Cozens will never be his potential in Buffalo. We upgrade our center, you get a long-term center, a goal scorer (absolutely filthy shot), and Krebs is a pretty good utility player and is a dog.
