So I guess that means Joshua is ready to play. Interesting that they kept Bains over Aman.

With McDavid on IR and the Oil already exceeding the cap, I wouldn't be surprised to see them put in a claim.

Ryan's falling off as a centre and is likely on the edge of getting waived, and although Philp looks like a player, I don't like the Oil only having two playable bottom 6 centres in the system.

Wouldn’t mind him down the middle in Anaheim over lunderstrom.

Aman could carve out a career as a 2-3C with Backlund - esque production. More untapped potential than just a 4c

No chance he passes through
He is not even close to Backlund. He's a defensively responsible 4C that can't reliably win faceoffs.

As a Canucks fan I don’t mind if he gets claimed as he’s blocking some of our more talented players from getting games. He’s a 4th line Center with no grit or above average faceoff ability.

This is something everyone should keep in mind on MOST waived players. The GM most likely tried to trade him for a token low draft pick and nobody was willing to give up one of their least valuable assets for him. The thought that he’s secretly a highly desirable player that a team wasn’t willing to give a seventh rounder for because they’re counting on being the only waiver claimant and save that draft pick is nonsense.

If a player got waived, there was low demand. Unless something literally changed between the hour of waiving and the hour of claiming… chances are the same 31 teams that said ‘no’ when the gm was trying to move him for value, still say no when the price goes from a low pick to a waiver fee.
You're assuming that GM's always try to trade players before waiving them, and that they prefer receiving late round picks for them over the risk of losing them, neither of which are true. GM's often want to keep players in their system so the late round pick isn't really worth it to them compared to the (very likely) chance that the player clears and can remain an asset.

Not to mention that teams receive money (however small relatively speaking) from the claiming team, which may have some non-negligible value as it means the team won't lose a player "for nothing".

This is the Avs projected forward lineup for tonight's game against Nashville.

Kiviranta - Mack - Mikko
Ivan - Mitts - LOC
Kylington - Kelly - Kovalenko
Wagner - Tynan - Prishchepov

A journeyman 13th forward on the top line.

An undrafted rookie on the second line.

A Dman and 13th forward on the 3rd line.

Two journeymen AHLers and a recent 7th round pick rookie with 6 games AHL experience on the 4th line.

Yeah this team could definitely need a forward.

He's a serviceable bottom line player. No offensive upside so don't expect anything to happen offensively but reliable defensively. With injuries around the league, I'm leaning towards that he'll get claimed. He is on a one-way deal so he could still get through if owners are being stingy with their money.

He's not a bad 4th line player. He's got size, speed, defensively responsible, with PK utility. But he's just so utterly non-dynamic. He has the tools to make more of an impact, but i don't think he's really got the mentality for it. He's not physical enough and he's a total zero offensively.

Wouldn't be shocked if a team with some injuries or a bad bottom-6 took a flyer on him, but also wouldn't be remotely surprised if he clears. He's just...not the sort of player that garners much of a second look.
he brings nothing to the table then. no offense

Ehhh...i really doubt that was the situation in this case. I think Vancouver would very much prefer to just keep him around in the organization as playable depth. He's the sort of guy that you don't necessarily care much about, but it's always better to have those sort of organizational depth players, especially Centers and Defencemen around and available in case you need them. That's just an extra rung of depth to have available if you can keep them, and he's cheap and buriable.

So i really doubt the Canucks "shopped" him around the league at all. More just a calculated gauging of the "risk" of him being claimed and thinking there's a solid chance he makes it through. While also assessing that if he were to be claimed, it wouldn't be a particularly huge blow to their team either.

I bet Habs pass
He is a warm body, but not sure who he replaces in the lineup, except if they send a message sending Dvorak or Armia to the minors and don t want to call up anybody. I like him as a 13F but Pezzetta has that role in MTL and hard to claim Aman is much better.

Send Kapanen back to Sweden where he should have started.

I would prefer to keep him, I think he is a solid 13th forward and it’s nice that he plays center and is defensively competent. I do find this to be somewhat a strange move, other than it gives more flexibility to the team to send him down to play and potentially bring up the hot hand. I would be surprised if he makes it through waivers and would have preferred they had done it earlier when lots of players were passing through and not getting claimed.

makes sense for the avs to claim him since they are desperate for nhl forwards however it's like admitting the made a mistake by not signing him in the first place.
