I got pretty close to what it was gonna end up being. Not shocked.

He moved because of his girlfriend. Also for the 100,000,000th time. All players are paid in USD. Because you are playing in Canada doesn't mean you get less money.
he left $16m on the table because his girlfriend wanted to live in ohio??? calgary must be a beautiful city lol

that is a solid contract for the Canucks

a few more tweaks and they should like look a pretty solid team again (unfortunately)
We need a playmaking winger that meshes with EP to truly take the next step imo.

I love that our mutual hatred actually became relevant after last season since it seems since the late 90's our teams windows are seldom aligned.

I say this with the utmost respect, I hate the oilers, I hate the fans and I loved the fact that the hatred and immature jabs actually had a point to it😀

And in the spirit of that deep down oilers fans know that the style we especially with the much improved defense and the type of goaltending both our guys are capable of we are not a good match for you guys. I'd feel better with one more forward and I know it's boring but we can play boring, low event physical hockey and have enough talent to strike.

a recap: i said vancouver's defense looks good until hughes leaves. you said hughes isn't going anywhere. i asked you for proof. you have none. i don't have any proof that's he's leaving, since it is an unknowable outcome for anyone except for quinn

however, there is more reason to suspect that he will leave than he won't: locker room drama. management being forced to ship miller out for less than market value. the allure of playing with his 2 brothers on a contender. the fact that he signed his current contract to walk him directly to ufa. his desire to contend and the likely decline of the canucks. he's american playing in canada. the poor exchange rate of us-canadian currency means less take home money

reasons to suspect that he will stay: he was drafted there and he's the captain

not very compelling
You do realize he is paid in USD right?

The only concern is, the Canucks keep spending money on the blue line, yet still only have ONE Dman who can consistently push pace and “carry a pairing.”

Pettersson is a top of the line, Top 4 support Dman. Your not getting him transporting the puck and pushing pace though.

They have to try him with Hronek now, and just tell Hronek, that’s your pairing. Make it work. No more supporting Quinn and taking the easy way out. Earn your AAV.

Soucy is going to go somewhere else now, and probably look just fine playing the role he’s good at. Not the one the Canucks tried pushing him to play.
He looked more than fine transporting the puck

I think it's an alright deal. Nothing special. I'm not sure what Vancouver's building but as good as Hughes is they're going nowhere unless they unlock Pettersson and/or find another star somewhere.

I said Pesce was the comparable, but figured it'd ring in a million over that because of reasons like Canada and health and a little bit younger. But i'm very happy with that, especially with the cap set to go bonkers. Pettersson plays the sort of game that should age relatively well for a while at least.
