Seems high considering Jacob Trouba held out for months and only got $3M.

That's what I first thought...it's just a bridge so no big deal, but I don't see how Hutton has proved himself even worth that number over two years.

He's struggled this season but so has the entire defense aside from Sbisa (seriously). If he can continue to improve he will easily be worth it. He performed admirably last year as a rookie.

I can live with that deal, it's a little bit to high but only 300k.

On a side note, he still makes less than Sbisa

I'm fine with this. Figured his next contract AAV would be around 2.4-2.8M.

He's being asked to provide too much this season and that will skew some opinions (when Hutton and Stecher, both of whom I really like are averaging over 20 minutes per game - that says something about your depth) - but I think he's a talented guy who can be a middle four defender with an offensive bent for a long time. The money is a bit generous but it's two years and he'll get better - not the end of the world or worth crying about.

Needs to continue developing. Kid has all the smarts and hockey IQ needed for the game. Still gets outmuscled more than he should, he's not exactly small. I feel he should get better and agree he's being asked to play #3 minutes when he should be hovering between 4/5 minutes with offensive zone starts and PP time.
IMHO 2.8 is high for next season, but by his 4th pro season/the second season of this contract might be a steal.

Terrible contract. Hutton is a guy you go long term with. He's the real deal.

It's not Subban bridge contract bad, but I don't think Benning negotiated hard enough here.

It's not bad, a bit higher than I would have liked but honestly this could turn out to be a steal in year 2.

Hutton is having a tough start to his sophomore year but he's loaded with skill and has a great attitude. He brings everything the Canucks lack on the back end.

What exactly is a middle four?

There are usually only three pairings so is it top 4, or bottom 4? not trying to be a jerk, just wondering.

Either way, I agree with you that it's a bit generous but he's only going to get better. He's had a little sophomore slump but he's a very good piece for the future.

What's 300k+/- for a team like the Canucks anyways. Lot's of cap will be coming off in the coming years.
