Why would Canucks do this deal? This draft isn't even that deep.

He's probably our most valuable D and still fairly young. Makes no sense, unless we're getting a good, established, similar age top 6 goal scorer.

I can justify moving Edler for a pick... But Tanev is a bit of a stretch for a 2nd round pick.

Agreed. If (a huge if) they were to move Tanev for a non-roster return then the bulk of the value needs to come in the form of prospects. I don't think 1st rounder's for 2017 hold the same value as they have in the recent past.

Other than the value being insufficient for Vancouver...why does Colorado even want another top-pairing RHD with EJ+Barrie already there?

EJ and Barrie cover a different part of the defensive spectrum and wouldn't be used in the same situations as Tanev.

Except Barrie has a steady defensive partner and there's not a chance EJ and Z get split up.

So, again, why would the Avs put Tanev on the third pairing? Barrie certainly isn't going to go to the third pairing just to slot in a guy that has no offensive skill to play with another player that has limited offensive abilities. Tanev would primarily see 3rd pairing minutes and 2nd PK unit time.

So no, he's not worth it in a trade for the Avs. Bad fit.

Nope, we have some people saying Tanev is only worth a second, and some people saying the Canucks would never do this deal. Both sides unhappy = equal value trade in reality.

Might want to clear your calculator and try that equation again

Tanev is worth more than this, plain and simple. The Canucks being probably the worst team this year doesn't tank his value to a 2nd; he's still worth a mid first and a decent prospect. At least.
