I'd say a 1st for Tanev and a 3rd or 4th is closer. It's not a bad premise for either team though - if Vancouver trades Tanev for what ends up being a top 10 pick, that's a swindling

Vancouver might have two 2nd rounders this year, one from Columbus for stealing our beloved Torts. Might as well trade one.

Why would Canucks do this deal? This draft isn't even that deep.

He's probably our most valuable D and still fairly young. Makes no sense, unless we're getting a good, established, similar age top 6 goal scorer.

I can justify moving Edler for a pick... But Tanev is a bit of a stretch for a 2nd round pick.

Nope, we have some people saying Tanev is only worth a second, and some people saying the Canucks would never do this deal. Both sides unhappy = equal value trade in reality.

In another thread one fan thinks Tanev is worth MacKinnon, so...

Even if he was only worth a 2nd round pick... Canucks don't make that trade. To us he's much more valuable than a 2nd, especially in a weak draft year (2017). It would take an overpayment to pry him away.

tanev is unquestionably worth more than anyone in the canucks organization, this is actually some of the most insane content i've ever read.

Given that Colorado doesn't have the cap space....

No.

I feel a 1st alone for Tanev is an underpayment by the Avs in a big way. Avs would have to add salary to that 1st.

Soderberg + 1st + a nice prospect to compensate for Canucks taking back the older player. Seems a lot more fair imo.

He's not really a true #2 though. He's a black hole offensively. He's superb possession wise and defensively though. There's no argument there.

I do agree though that the 2nd round pick for him is just insane. Even the 1st alone is. Tanev isn't worth what Barrie is IMO, but he absolutely isn't worth garbage.

Chris Tanev is unquestionably a #2 dman, suggesting that a player needs to provide offense to be an effective top pairing guy is flawed, Niklas Hjalmarsson is a #2 on the best team of this era and he churns out nearly identical results to Christopher Tanev.

Tyson Barrie plays easy minutes in easy situations, he's absolutely excellent offensively and I absolutely do think he's a #2 as well. Chris Tanev is essentially the opposite he plays tough competition and eats it up, the net result of both their games are really good despite have noted deficiencies.

Hes a number 2 defenceman and its not even close. Its his lack of
offensive skills and output that prevents him from being a legit number 1.

Canucks hang up on Op's proposal quick.

Aves first rounder likely a top 3 pick. Why would they waste it when they need to rebuild? It's like the Kessel trade...

Who are players that are a true #2 defenseman, that provide the defensive numbers Tanev churns out, while also putting up 30+ points? Those defensemen are likely all #1 defensemen if they are churning out top defensive and offensive numbers.

Hjalmarsson was a good comparison by K2B.
