Proposal: VAN - Best Forward Available

O Reilly may be the correct target here imo. Here is a deal that benefits both sides moving fwd with NO retention needed which of course could be a sticking point

To Nashville: Silovs, Karlsson, Juulsen, Kunz, 2026 5th

To Vancouver: OReilly, 2025 4th

What is the best forward available to the Canucks for the following:

2025 1st round pick
2025 2nd round pick
NHL roster players: Hoglander and/or Soucy
b-prospects - Sawyer Mynio, Arthurs Silvos, Aatu Raty, Linus Karlsson

Have cap space to work with. Ability to play centre would be a plus.

Not afraid to take on a cap hit for a good player long-term.
Frederic, Trent

Provably a first and Hog gets it done

I think we could get a 1st for O'Reilly from someone, if we were to move him. We might hold on to him, which might not be the best idea.

Okay so, we don't agree on Forsberg but I would do that from a Canucks perspective in a second. Don't think O'Reilly wants to go a Canadian Market though. But I would do a 1st+.

Forsberg is firmly in the 4 1sts category. You guys have Pettersson, Hughes(not happening) and Lekkermaki, Wallinder ++ as options. We wouldn't consider dealing him for less, we absolutely need an untouchable asset coming back.
So he's worth more than Jack Eichel was? OK lol

Eichel had a major spine injury and there were questions about how he would heal afterwards, he also hadn't hit more than 36 goals or 82 points. Forsberg is a 48 goal 96 point player in the middle of his prime, untouchables would need to be on the table for us to consider moving him.

It’s an unsexy pick but I think the Canucks will go after Brayden Schenn.
  • Vancouver probably wants a more hard-nosed center to replace some of JT Miller’s game.
  • Statistically he has fared well against other top western conference centers over the last 1.5 seasons. See chart here.
  • The Canucks have made a major effort to reset their locker room culture mid-season and I think they hold the Schenn family in high regard (org brought back Luke Schenn twice)
  • Consider that they were willing to sign Elias Lindholm to an 8y x 8m deal to play top-nine minutes for them—I don’t think paying Schenn 3y x 6.5m will scare them off. They have the cap space.
Relatively speaking—I don’t think Schenn would be too expensive to acquire either.

I think this is actually a pretty reasonable notion. Schenn would certainly fit that 2C spot and the sort of team and roster they really want to build for Tocchet. Only thing i'd take issue with, is the idea that Schenn will be "cheap". I think there are enough teams interested that the price will get driven up. Especially since it seems like St Louis would be plenty content to just hang onto him as a core leader on their team.

Phil Forsberg for Vancouver 1st + 2nd rounder in 2025 (unprotected) +Lekkerimaki + Silvos + Raty?

I'd do something like that.

I think that's a fair package for Forsberg. I'd even send Boeser back with him rather than include the 2nd + Raty, and Nashville can work on an extension.

Boeser, 1st, Lekk, Silovs for Forsberg

I'd do something like this for Forsberg too. But i'm not sure how realistic it is. Forsberg has trade protection a reason to want to stay in Nashville. I'm not sure Trotz would be interested in swapping a better player under contract for a "maybe" guy that he has to convince to sign, or he'll walk as a UFA. That seems awfully risky. So it seems pretty unlikely on both ends really. As much as Forsberg would be a huge add for the Canucks, and it'd help the Preds get slightly younger.

Nope. Doesn’t fill a top 6 need…but you know that.

What’s the price in Nylander or Marner? Keeping them? Is Marner an easy re-sign as a UFA?

Not the age or stylistic fit I think the Canucks are looking for. But not a bad suggestion.

Really looking for the forward version of the Hronek trade.
Cozens?

Tough to find young forwards or young D teams don't want to keep who are performing well.

I think it just means he's not available. If due to some internal issue he wanted out, he'd return similar to JT MIller.

I'd rather hold on to Lekkermaki. We are not contenders this year. We need a 100Point season out of Pettersson to be considered contenders.
I would trade Lek for the right cost controlled young fwd. Obv there is a lot to love about him and I wouldn't be giving him away for a rental or anything like that but I am a little worried about his size. He's puny and scrawny.
