Proposal: Value of Quinn Hughes

Maybe I’m catergorizing #1 center incorrectly. I’m basically saying that the Canucks should be looking for a center equivalent value of Simon Nemec.
Oh Im sorry, I thought you meant a #1 dman prospect for two years of Quinn (like Nemec)

Thats more fair; though if it was to come to fruition, Im not sure if itd be as high-end a 1C prospect as a second overall

To be fair, Nemec’s value is nowhere near that of a 2nd overall pick anymore.

I just think that a lot of people would be surprised at the amount of teams that were show interest in Quinn, even with only 2 years on his deal. He’s the type of player that would turn a middle of the pack team into a contender. A team like Detroit for example would probably be extremely interested.

That could be true but I also dont think New Jersey (nor all other 31 teams) would see it that way

Hes still 21 and just had an incredible playoffs, after a year he played 20 a night at 19-20 years old. One season injured and bumped down the lineup isnt negating that, no matter how reactionary the internet can be

Personally I just don’t see a good fit for him in Vancouver, even if Hughes is gone.

In all of this has been my feeling that Id not trade anything or value for Quinn; if rumors are true Ill test them in 2027 FA

In terms of if a Nemec would go for two years of a Quinn in another situation (a normal one without brothers lol), Im not sure most would do that unless they were a true contender who had an extra Nemec-level prospect

A clearer path is to use the draft picks or prospects they get back for Quinn from Detroit as secondary assets to acquire a player like Byram to fill in as an offensive LHD.

Detroit, San Jose, Seattle or Chicago among other teams I'm sure could put together far superior offers than the slop Devils fans are offering up.

Right, Luke Hughes isn’t eligible for an offer sheet this year, but if he signs just a one-year extension, he’ll probably be eligible next season. Then the leverage switches to whichever Team holds Quinn's rights and wants to sign Luke to an offer sheet.

Luke isn’t signing a one year extension.

I'm not sure Quinn is determined to play with His Brothers. He may
have gotten attached to Vancouver. No idea what He signals to
Canucks management. Still, I can see an East Coast Team
wanting Him, or a team that is really up and coming. Maybe the Rangers not that they
are super close. ? They could offer Lafreniere and Braden Schneider and or K'Andre Miller (He is a FA soon). Also, the Rangers have a high pick this year. I heard the Canucks liked these Ranger Players. I think Hughes is amazing, but He is small and gets hit allot. Will He have a long career. He would be valuable just as a two year rental to a competitive team.

His team president literally said he wants to play with his brothers. I imagine he's privy to Quinn's feelings on the matter.

No team in the NHL has the assets to acquire three Hughes' brothers outside of free agent signings; its Jersey or bust for a trio show
In 2 years, sure. But who’s to say they can’t all link up in 5? Quinn will be 30, Jack 29 and Luke 26. Seems perfectly reasonable. Quinn’s the big bro and best of the three, he’ll call the shots on who they play for.

Yes, but was he that definite about it? It's probably the case. I know Quinn wants to win, and He probably thinks He has a better chance elsewhere. If I were the Canucks I would move Him to the
highest bidder. I'm a Canucks fan, but I don't like what has happened this year.

NHL RFA offer sheet compensation tiers:
AAV (Offer Sheet)Compensation
$1,540,740 or belowNo compensation
$1,540,741 – $2,343,4713rd-round pick
$2,343,472 – $4,686,9412nd-round pick
$4,686,942 – $7,030,4091st- and 3rd-round picks
$7,030,410 – $9,373,8761st-, 2nd-, and 3rd-round picks
$9,373,877 – $11,717,443Two 1st-round picks, a 2nd, and a 3rd
$11,717,444 or moreFour 1st-round picks

  • Compensation picks must be the team’s own draft picks, not acquired ones (with some exceptions).
  • The AAV is calculated by total contract value divided by the lesser of the contract term or 5 years (used to prevent cap circumvention with long-term, low-AAV deals).

So if the Red Wings trade for Quinn and they offer sheet Luke up to 11.7M, it is probably possible to have the assets to acquire Jack as well.

Maybe but thats a conversation that can stretch a decade and isnt much worth having; hypotheticals five years away dont interest GMs

lmao Why would the Devils not match that?? Yeah sure paying Luke that much would but you don’t match and you’re eventually losing Jack. You do match and you’re keeping Luke and good chance at getting Quinn. This whole hypothetical is so delusional because Luke’s not going to sign a 1 year deal.

Because Luke could maximize his income by signing for only 1 year and then a team like Detroit could say, "Do you Feel Lucky, Make my day" and ask NJ to match a 1 year 11.7M offer sheet for Luke.

Luke is going to get a massive payday if he only re-ups for only a year in NJ.

so there is that.
