Proposal: Value of Quinn Hughes

I think we need a young 1C as the return for Hughes. We would still have a good D core without him. We have D Petey and Willander who both look very promising, nothing for a 1C.

A team trading for Quinn is looking to contend. A team looking to contend is not trading a 1C. Especially not a young 1C.

Would have to be a 3 way trade, Canucks really need to address the center position. If we’re trading a player like Hughes we’re going to go after what we need in return. Players like him don’t become available often, speculating that he may be available as I’m sure Canucks would rather re-sign him to a retirement contract

What would it take for the Bolts to get Quinn? Everyone is on the table, Kuch, Point, Hedman, Vasy, etc. Just ask and you will receive. Hagel I would be less willing to trade but it can be managed.

It's been mentioned, but:

1) Dougie Hamilton has a partial NMC, and with Vancouver a clown car for a solid year or more, dollars to donuts they're on his no-go list.
2) Q. Hughes doesn't need to tell Vancouver whether he wants to stay, because they can't sign him to a contract extension for another 14 months. If they want to move him, it'll be without clarification from him.

The Devils won't trade J. Hughes and L. Hughes either. That's a non starter. The Canucks don't really have the pieces. Elias Pettersson certainly won't get it done. Quantity won't move the needle either. J. Hughes is a superstar signed to a contract before salary inflation set in. That's priceless. Look what happened to that team once he was removed from the lineup.

There's 30 other teams in the league. Furthermore, if delusional Devils fans just think they can just wait two years they can only offer him 7 years. So 17 + per year is good to you? Vancouver will pay him 15. And if they trade him elsewhere that team can also offer him the 8th year. Hell it might be 18 x 7 by then.

Threads like this are honestly disrespectful.

He is the captain of the Vancouver Canucks, and has never once said anything about playing anywhere else.

Has anyone here ever heard Quinn Hughes speak? He is a big time hockey nerd with oldschool values and work ethic, with designs on being one of the greatest players of all time. This is our Sidney Crosby.
Oh, honey...

If they move him, it should be to the highest bidder. It’s a business afterall, right?
Who’s gonna drop a ton on him knowing very well he’s likely gonna go to UFA to play with his brothers?

Because if Vancouver is looking to trade him that means he wants out and wants to be with Jack and Luke like Rutherford said.

The only team that’s gonna have both the pieces and the want to drop off pieces because they’re sure they can re-up him since they have his brothers are the devils.

And lots of teams could re-sgn him and some of them are a lot better than New Jersey. The 8th year is a real thing. New Jersey is in no better position to land Hughes than any other team. The offers in this thread are putrid.

Who said anything about getting a “ton” back? I would expect other teams to offer more than the equivalent of Nemec, Mercer and a 1st though which is about the going rate offer from Devils’ fans in this thread. I also don’t value either Nemec or Mercer especially high though. If the Canucks could find a package involving a young center of Nemec’s value, I would much prefer to see them go down that route.

Lmao they’re gonna offer more than that for just 2 years of Quinn than him bolting in F/A?

What I find hilarious coming from devils fans saying they'll just wait and sign him in ufa is the lack of realization that even on a team friendly deal Hughes will cost 15 mil a season if not more with a 110mil salary cap. Sure it's going up but the value for the next 2 years for Hughes at 7.85 is insane.
If it was this offseason the package from NJ is silayev, Nemec, 26 and 27 firsts, Mercer and whatever they might want to do for salary. And I'm willing to bet NJ smiles while filing the trade because they just got the best/second best dman(top 5 playdriver) in the league and hardly took anything off their roster.

The Devils fans on here are a crafty bunch.

Sure in the hypothetical Quinn is traded this offseason the value’s insane but does anyone actually think that’s a realistic thing that’d happen? I cannot see the Canucks moving on from their franchise D a year before he’s even extension eligible. They'll try and turn things around to try and get him to stay.

I think there’s almost zero chance they move him this offseason. Only way they would is if Quinn straight up tells them he’s gone in 2 years and I don’t think that will happen.

And in that scenario I still don't think they would trade him this off-season. They will spend the next year trying to convince him to stay in Vancouver which they rightfully should be doing.

I think in that scenario it would all come down to how well the team performs between now and next year’s trade deadline. If they’re on the outside again that might finally force the organization to enter a rebuild. But probably not with this ownership group.

Let us not forget - The Hughes Boys will likely gross 350-500M collectively over the course of their careers. That's one family....350-500M. I don't think that 8th year at 14M anyone is going to care about.
