Proposal: Value of Quinn Hughes

A list he will reject

For an extension maybe but I imagine there’s at least some teams that’d certainly be interested in a Norris Dman at under 8 mil for 2 seasons. He can help you try to win a Cup and you can try your hardest to convince him to stay if you have success

Sounds an awful lot like Montreal fans during the Dubois fiasco with the Jets.

Last I checked, he never signed in Montreal.

Guess we will find out this summer.

I think the Devils would be foolish to not salivate at the idea of adding Quinn Hughes. Hamilton, Pesce and Kovacevic on the right side, with Nemec pushing for a spot as well.

Brenden Dillon and Brian Dumolin aren't exactly exciting players.

oh - i agree. Just not sure they'll go nuts giving up assets for him.

To quote myself in another thread.... Quinn was unsettlingly good against the devils last month.

Dumoulin’s just a rental anyway. The left side also has Luke and Siegs. The Dillon deal’s awful but the D is not a problem for us right now. We’d obviously love to have Quinn but we’re not going to be paying the “kings ransom” for him when we need forward help FAR more and could still maybe get Quinn in a couple of years.

I don’t think we will because I don’t think the Canucks themselves will have any interest moving Quinn before July 1 2026 and maybe not even then yet. Quinn will be a Canuck next year but it won’t be due to a lack of interest around the league.

So, like. Did Quinn Hughes request a trade or wtf was that...?
Grandpa JR is just a gift that keeps on giving. He was referring to before the 4 nations faceoff, when Quinn said he wanted to play with Jack. Now because he was unclear, this thread doubled in size for obvious reasons. As you can see, Allvin next to him was grimacing and questioning his life choices, annnnd probably kicked him pretty hard to stop him from further tampering....

I would expect an opening offer by NJ of 1st in 2026 (unprotected), Mercer, Nemec/Silayev
Vancouver will counter with 2026 1st + Bratt
No clue where it goes from there.

It goes nowhere from there. You don’t move Bratt.

Edit: Also he has a NMC

I figured that. "where it goes" means NJ would have to make a counter offer. But the package is probably somewhere between the two. Maybe NJ gets the better end of it if they play hardball but 3 years of Quinn under contract are going to be worth something significant.

Yeah but if it’s a core piece that’s required then it’s just not getting done. The Mercer+Nemec+1st is probably the type of package we’d be offering. We’d probably just be adding some more middling pieces from there. So if you’re going to be turning down that type of deal I don’t think there’s a deal to be done.

He said Quinn wants to play with his brothers, Luke didn't play for USA so I don't think he was referring to the Four Nations.

He is 76, he maybe as spry as Trump, also treat the accuracy of his speech with similar amount of salt. If you're going to scrutinize over his plurals then, you may not be that interested in what he was actually trying to communicate here.

While no one knows why JR says what he says at these pressers, ask yourself logically why would Quinn tell management he wants to play in the NHL with his brother(s) if he's not just outwardly asking for a trade? Just for giggles?

Grandpa JR is not telling the world Quinn wants to leave, just that Vancouver will have the cap space for him, but if he still chooses not to stay, it'll be because of some other reasons out of their control like him wanting to play with his brothers.

No no no noooo..........he's clearly stating that Quinn told them that he wants to leave the minute his contract is up........at least that's the way the brain trust around here has been interpreting it.

Somehow overlooking the fact JR basically said they will move heaven and earth to keep him happy......

1 + 1 = 26 in these parts don't you know?

Your explanation makes no sense but then again I'm not sure I'm following you either, why would he mention about Quinn wanting to play with his brother at Four Nations? What relevance is it to anything? No offense but it sounds like spin.

Answer my second paragraph.

Why would Quinn tell management JR/Allvin he wants to play with his brothers?

Is the captain is asking for a trade out of Vancouver? What other possible reason would he say that to JR?

Did he say this publicly at any point in time?

Yes.

Before 4 nations.

You have your answer.

Theres many reasons why he would. For starters the GM might of just straight up asked him about future contracts & Quinn is being nice enough (loyal) to give them a heads up that he plans on leaving to play with his brothers. Of course he doesn't have to tell the GM, but if you have a good relationship with the guy & it's being talked about behind closed doors I don't see why Quinn would lie to the man. I'm sure Quinn likes it in Van & doesn't mind playing out his contract there but maybe he planted the seed to the GM and if he gets traded to his dream destination faster even better for him. Also Quinn bolting to NJ has been basically written on the wall the second NJ drafted Luke. It's hardly a secret & I'm sure every single GM knows about it.

More likely the Hughes brothers slowly make their way out West.........pretty clear that's on the agenda here not Quinn leaving.......
How so? I mean really. Its prettier in VanCity, that's it.
EP40 is a mess
Boeser is gone
Tocchet is freed
The travel blows!

Meanwhile our GM has the upper hand by your GM PUBLICLY spilling the beans.
It's a nice thought to have but its not happening.

A lot of people assuming he will engineer a move to New Jersey just because his brothers are there.

I know thats an easy connection to make, but people shouldn't assume things are going to happen just because they share the same parents.

Quinn could very well choose to stay in Vancouver and build a winner there or want to play for a team thats not the Devils.
It's just that Nucks GM he wants to play with his bros. So in your 2nd scenario all 3 are traded to a third team. Makes sense!

Thats extremely far fetched.

Quinn would have to be as unguarded and naive as JR to reveal something as impactful while still skating 25+ minutes running his squad. Every indication around vancouver is that it's not something Quinn has ever discussed, nor expected to. You might as well argue that he was inebriated, and it slipped out that he has always wanted to go to Jersey after one too many.

Sure it's possible, just unlikely.

I get the furore he generated. Occam's razor suggests its just him suggesting a possible reason 43 would opt out of signing, nothing earth shattering like "he wants out". In this age of sensationalism, sorry to disappoint.

Would take anything NJ fans say about Hughes trade value with a grain of salt. They think they will get him to NJ for free and he will sign a discount too while giving up his captaincy. They already have that narrative in their head so hard to convince them how high Hughes trade value is.
If he makes to FA without being traded here first it's free.
No one here said a discount signing thats just you whining. Your GM told you our Hughes go to VAN or Q comes here.

How do the Canucks even trade for Jack and Luke? I mean Pettersson is an obvious start, but after that you'd need a large haul to grab them.

I mean, Vancouver might as well trade Quinn and get a large haul back from New Jersey. Or trade him to Chicago for Bedard.

. Or trade him to Chicago for Bedard.

Why would Chicago trade Bedard for a two year rental, even if he's an amazing player? That makes no sense.

Something around Nemec + 1st + Roster player (Mercer makes the most sense) is probably about what Vancouver would get. It's not what Vancouver fans likely would be happy with, but given the circumstances, it's highly unlikely that they'll get full market value. At least you get two young players, and a pick for the rebuild.
