Proposal: Value of Quinn Hughes

New Jersey being successful or not won't make any difference for the NHL. NHL is a 32 team league and New Jersey is not that big of a market, same with Buffalo. New York Rangers being more successful would be something the NHL likes to see, because they are an original 6 team, have big media following and a huge fan base. NJD is really an after thought in New York state similar to Buffalo. Its like saying NHL cares about Ottawa being more successful than Toronto when all of us know most of Ontario follows the Leafs, heck maybe most of Canada.

Both NJ and NYI are part of the NY market. That's where you are mistaken here.

I'm referring to North and Central Jersey as part of the NY market. South Jersey is Philly

Buffalo while not in the NY market is an underrated market because since they are sort of close to Toronto a Sabres (if the Sabres get their stuff together) Leafs rivalry would be pretty big.

But the shares of NJ and NYI in NY market is not much. You don't see big media coverage of NYI or NJD versus NYR. Again there is more people following NYR in NY market.

I'd argue with 99% sureity its Van or Jersey. the "somone else" is really not an option. If you have a betting site for this lemme know please!
So us against the world? Finally we are one the same side for once, Smitty

I really don't get this infatuation of playing with your brothers on HFboard. Like we have had Staal brothers, Niedermyer brothers that played separately for many years even decades and then they decided to play together only when they were at retirement age. None of them played together when they were still young and in their prime. Same with Hughes, their priority would be winning the cup and making as much money as possible and also being a key part of the team. Why would Quinn Hughes give up his captaincy and make less money in New Jersey holding his brother's bag? It doesn't make sense and maybe he doesnt even want to when he wants to carry his own team to the cup. Not all brothers are like Sedins that need to live together and play together and take the bus together and be roomies together. Also New Jersey Devils are not cup contenders and it shows. Being closer to being a cup contender doesn't mean much especially when things change fast. Last year Canucks were closer to being a cup contender than New Jersey. So its really a moot point to talk about it. I would only consider New Jersey a cup contender once they make the finals otherwise they are just another pretenders.

Scott Niedermayer was 32 when he joined the Ducks - he just came off winning the Norris and would finish 2nd in voting the next two seasons and top 10 his first 4 seasons in Anaheim. He was also top 10 in Hart voting his first two seasons in Anaheim and played at least 25:30 per night both of those seasons. What the hell are you talking about with "retirement age" and not being in his prime?

That was also the earliest he could leave NJ via UFA, as the age was 31 back then and he lost a full season to the lockout. Quinn can leave earlier now that the age of UFA has been lowered.

At all, thats bold. No doubt they will go hard, that does not mean he just does what they want though. Doesnt mean he doesnt sign, but nothing you said makes it so either.

Yeah as much as some fans like to surmise and wish it's incredibly unlikely he leaves. By all accounts he's a GREAT guy and amazing captain. The team will move heaven and earth to keep him.

Personally i think there is less than a 5% chance he leaves. Posters acting like he's leaving for sure are completely out to lunch, very uneducated or just trolling imo.

Winning is probably important to him too so if he thinks he’ll have a better chance of winning with his brothers than the Canucks then he might consider moving. Probably depends heavily on what Vancouver can do this offseason to improve the team.

What perch are Devils fans really standing on right now? Gonna get punted in the 1st rd this year; missed the playoffs last year; had a 2nd rd appearance couple years ago. Whoopdy doo.

You think Quinn Hughes is envious of this massive winning culture going on in New Jersey?

The Canucks have had a disastrous season. Sort of similar to New Jersey last year. Things change quickly is the point. And annoying Devils fans are piling on the Canucks when they had something similar happen not too long ago.

There isn't an incentive for Quinn to leave for New Jersey to win because New Jersey hasn't won anything. Time to step off your perch now.

Yeah, the team was coming out of a rebuild so of course we're not going to have a ton of playoff success to brag about.

If Quinn is envious of anything in NJ, it would be more of the locker room culture versus what he had endured this season in Vancouver. He might also enjoy not having to play under the microscope of being in a Canadian city, but who knows.

What the Devils do have going for them though is a fairly young core of players locked up long-term at reasonable cap hits. Hopefully add another one in Luke this summer.

We'll see how NJ performs in the playoffs this spring and next - zero chance Quinn gets dealt before then anyway. Not expecting much this postseason given the injuries to Jack, Siegenthaler and Hamilton, but Nico, Bratt, Meier and Luke have all really stepped up their games since Jack got injured and Markstrom is starting to find his form again after recovering from his injury, so who knows?

Both teams figure to be active this offseason, so a lot will certainly change between now and when Quinn can even consider an extension in Vancouver.

Boy you guys are really sour huh?
Lets talk about winning nothing!

Your kinded jaded to think that a 26 old with 2 other brothers playing in the league doesn't consider playing with them in the sweet spot of all of the careers! NVM it being the Devils, hell for any team. Consider that when (if) Quinn does sign in Van, he most likely won't have this chance again. Luke will get 6/7 years this summer. Jack is an UFA 3 yrs after this one. Timing wise it works.
Sure he'll be a Canuck for life, lets go with that!

The Devils didn’t trade away one of their best players though. If anything they added a lot of depth this past offseason with their signings whereas it’s going to be very difficult for the Canucks to replace what Miller brought.

Quinn knows as well as the rest of us that the Devils are without their top center (his brother), their #1 defender, and one of their better pure defenders. You can easily point towards injuries to see why the Devils might get knocked out of the first round.

The Devils are younger, more well rounded, and still have plenty of assets to use to make a trade. They can also very easily make room for Quinn in both salary and position by trading Hamilton.

He may not want to come play in New Jersey. He may not want stay in Vancouver. He might want to play in Detroit where I believe the Hughes’ considering their home. Guess we’ll see.

He's the captain in a beautiful city with diehard fans. Maybe he will be a Canuck for life? Stop pretending you know his priorities. He's going to be given a blank cheque and when he signs his 8yr 120M contract Canucks fans can laugh at all the baseless speculation - much like Oilers fans endured with Draisaitl.

If Pettersson gets traded and the Canucks decide to rebuild, then Hughes might go too. That's the only situation where this happens.

There's no way they trade him for roster players as they'll lose that trade every time. If Hughes is gone Vancouver has to rebuild. Their GM essentially said that publicly too.

In a futures package I'd do ASP+Danielson+3 1sts but that gets beat easily.
That easily beat any package out there for Hughes. I think he would get something similar to what Rantanen had.

ASP + 2x 1st and few other elements (depth players/short term cap dump?) gets it done if push come to shove

I mean if that’s true then I’d do that deal 8/7 days of the week.
