When you assemble a roster of ZAR clones, expect ZAR-level results.

Penalty killing is such a small part of the game, but it’s like the number one thing in his head all of the time. The importance he places on it and how he molds the roster around it is downright insane.

Anyway, when they get a new coach, he’d better not be a former 4th liner/pker. I don’t think
I can take another one.

They would all rather defend their own access than write hard truths. Haase did the same thing in her article for DK's site.

If this continues long enough?! Taylor, I know you've been writing about this team for years now. Don't try to tell me that this (the Penguins disappointing under Sullivan) has not been something that has been going on for years now.
Don't let her see that you posted this without linking to her article...

And the PK isn't what he coaches. It's Vellucci and if anything he's more proud of the favourites he has on the unit - Acciari and Nieto.

Sullivan talks like he coaches that unit, essentially stealing credit from Vellucci. This is who FSG and other idiots respect?

Monty wasn't a 4th line plug like Sullivan. He was very good offensively at the college and ahl level. He just wasn't good enough at the NHL level. But hey still bit a 4th line pk wanker.

Poulin played 9 minutes. Didn’t even notice Pono didn’t play.

Once again, why call them up to not play?
A team looking for a spark but only puts youth on the 4th line...then they bitch so and so didn't have the best wingers.

Crosby literally got Rust and Rakell and got scored on twice. Meanwhile Geno got so f***ed with Beauvillier and Bunting, like what the f*** did he do to get punished? Lol.

Why do we even bother. All we know is they'll spin it as a shit roster that let down Sullivan when I guarantee a different coach would get better results.

Woah, show a little respect. He had 94 points last year. He's got 21 in 23 this year. Would be more with a competent coach who doesn't demoralize the room.
He got stripped of Guentzel and has been given non L1 quality wingers. Letang has disappeared on him too.
He's still very capable of 80+ points.

Name as many teams with two Centers on that level as you can.
Edmonton and Florida, sure. But that's only when they use Reinhart and Drai at C, which they usually don't.
Yeah, Crosby has 21 in 23. But I've watched every Penguins game this season (because of Pulju) and mean no disrespect, but I think it would be in both his own and team's best interest to see him finish his career elsewhere. Nowadays he is only good enough to prevent the team tanking up properly, not good enough to get this team anywhere near playoffs.

Hmm, I wonder what the limiting factor might be?
The way this team is constructed, I don't see any playoff potential with or without Sullivan. Crosby, Malkin, Letang and EK65 are all just too far away from their prime, and there are zero capable replacements under way.

Remember when Sullivan was hired and he talked a lot about reigning in emotions and being disciplined? That was what helped in the playoffs against teams like Philly that really fed off of the Pens being over emotional and the games turning into a shit show... So they calmed down and actually played and won 2 cups... However he kept coaching the emotion out of this team to the point that guys like Kessel, and Hornqvist were traded, and everyone coming in were unemotional slabs of meat incapable of raising their games because they don't have it in them to do so, and if they do Sully will force it out of you like Karlsson the past 2 years

Last night Sully finally coached every last drop of emotion out of this franchise, fans included.

The media is concerned that a guy like Karlsson is so flippant? What the f*** do you expect? The coach wants no emotion, he demands discipline.... This is what you get.

The Ned video is hilarious. NED LOSES IT ON HIS TEAMMATES!!!!

Haha no Vokoun lost it on his teammates,

Sullivan quote after the game.... Now tell me I'm wrong, his philosophy is not conducive to long term winning, if you coach out emotion.

"It’s not an easy experience to go through what we’re going through,” Sullivan said. “The biggest thing for me is to try to inspire these guys and make sure that we don’t give in to our emotions, that we’ve got to have some resilience to us.”

He needs to go.... Inspiration needs emotion, no emotion, no inspiration

Thanks for the insight into things we knew 3 seasons ago.

I missed the first two periods last night and the fact that Sid scored 600 completely passed me
by since it was buried in a humiliation.

Are FSG happy watching this as a retirement tour? All the silver linings, any milestones, becoming afterthoughts in a game because the Pens got another ass kicking and the building finished half empty by the final buzzer? All to preserve Mike’s ego

Just a pathetic state of affairs.

Yeah, I would say, frankly, emotional response is exactly what is needed right now in that room. An emotion of like, maybe, pride or anger might spur someone to an individual performance where they go off.

“No emotion” was the right call in 2016, Mike. That team was loaded with skill, and just needed to focus on executing because their emotional toddlerism was getting in the way and their talent level was good enough to beat anyone.

Of course Mike still coaches and acts like it’s the same team.

I have a suspicion that's all he knows how to do is preach stick-to-itivness and the team is getting frustrated that there are no new ideas, which is something that people have accused me of trolling (me? I never!) when I said it 4 years ago, but seems like sadly, I was right.

I know you did, was just answering to critique. I'll shut up now.
Nah, I'm just teasing you. I don't really care if you talk about it.

Yeah, we definitely agree that a new coach would get guys playing a bit better and boost their value. I just vehemently disagree that the marginal increase in trade value is worth climbing into like 8-10th overall territory and losing out on the best prospect they'll have the change to pick since Sid and Geno.

But Sully is absolutely tanking this roster's value. We agree there. I just think the guys on this roster have relatively meh value at best. EK's done, he's gonna need a full camp/pre-season on a new team to unf*** his head after years in this org. Petts is a middle pairing whatever blueliner. Rakell's a whatever middle-6 winger. Bunting's a 3rd liner. Puljujarvi's got potential as a third wheel on a scoring line but, ehhh. Rust has lost any value he brought to a line away from the puck and is basically just a 45pt floater now.

This team can get some assets for some of these guys, but the minimal bump in value from swapping coaches isn't worth missing out on a potential stud like Martone, Misa or Hagens.

But the second the season's over, tell Sullivan to eat shit and make him call his own Uber out of the arena. Don't even allow him to stick around and influence the draft or off-season moves, cuz he's definitely gonna lobby for this team to make a reach pick for some 5'10 dork that "plays the right way" and PKs from New England, and he's definitely gonna keep Rust here at all costs even when his NTC drops.
when it's this bad, i can see a lot of guys with (no trade) waving to get out of town.

still haunted by the fact that a few good moves and they could’ve won two more cups and instead they made a spiraling sequence of ever worse ones and we are squarely in hell
