Utah Hockey Club down to final 3 names: Hockey Club, Mammoth, and Outlaws (upd: Wasatch already nixed)

What the mother f- is a Knickerbocker, why is the team in Toronto named after a foliage (obviously that’s not why but if we are just going to pretend to be ignorant then…) and why are famous teams in baseball called “Sox” and have actual socks for logos?

We can play this game all day. It’s weird because you aren’t used to it. Your ignorance doesn’t mean it can’t eventually work. Do you think the majority of folks actually know why most teams are named they were or what the true origin stories are? You don’t think regionally important names have been used throughout professional sports history?

Well excuse me for being generally curious and asking a question.

How dare I ask what something I don't know actually is.

And nothing in your word salad actually answered my question.

Utah Hockey Club is by far the best option of the 3.

Utah Mammoth sounds terrible
Utah Wasatachi or whatever that is also sounds terrible
I agree. I don't even know how to say the last one.

It's really hard for me to get behind an unpluralized name for a sports team.

I know teams like wild and Kraken work, but in most cases teams names sound so much better when pluralized.

The Utah mammoths. That's a damn tongue twister. Please Utah let's go back and find some new names to consider. The mountaineers might sound too much like the mounties, but it sure as hell sounds a lot better. It's a lot easier to say.

Even the other names being considered were awful. Ice? Powder? Venom?

Coyotes was a great name. We didn't know how good we really had it.
Coyotes was a cool name until I watched a video of coyotes crawling around Las Vegas at night. Looking for small dogs and cats to munch on.

Just buy the f***ing name from the ECHL team.

God damn that's a killer logo. The branding is done. It's perfect.

If Yeti got turned down because of the cooler, Mammoth should get turned down because of the professional lacrosse team based in Colorado. Wouldn't want fans to get confused about which sport they are watching.

I imagine the NHL will get Kroenke to agree to the name if they go with Mammoth, especially because the NLL is way down the totem pole of sports in this continent.

I think it's finally time to admit that nothing is going to sound good being said after "Utah"
