Utah Hockey Club down to final 3 names: Hockey Club, Mammoth, and Outlaws (upd: Wasatch already nixed)

Mammoth is going to be the pick.

UHC is embarrassing this season, and would be worse to be permanent.

Wasatch would be a good one, if you didn't have to explain it every time.

I can't believe they couldn't make Yeti work.

I still say it should have been Phoenix. Cool Arizona reference and a firebird makes a great logo.

Utah Stingers make it happen

Feels like they set it up so they can't choose anything else than Mammoth. No one gonna chose the other options. What is even Wasatch?

Meanwhile they can probably license the Mammoth name for much cheaper, and it would probably be a smart business move on the part of the lacrosse franchise. That fee could easily equal 5-10+ years worth of their net revenue.

Not sure about the CO Mammoth’s specific financials but indoor and outdoor lacrosse franchises move or fold all the time (although I know the outdoor lacrosse team in Denver was one of the few profitable franchises in the MLL).

I mean it's just a toy owned by Kroenke. It's like a tiny action figure in his collection. He likely doesn't care too much about the fee.

From a fan on Reddit who saw the proposed logo concepts - sorry if already posted here:

"This is what my coworker just sent me about the Name/Logo survey at the game

“Exact same color scheme for all options, the same blue-white-black/grey.

UHC and Wasatch would have the same logo mascot, which is like a side profile face of a ..... little dude. Like it could be a yeti or just like a mountain-y looking man. It's all very angular and the back of his head kind of morphs into mountains. It sounds so dumb to describe, but it’s okay. Ish. I didn't hate it.

The Mammoth one was very very similar but a mammoth head for the logo, obvs. Still very angular and it brings the mountain look to it. They appeared to have kept the same angular typeface regardless of option.

You get to vote on name, mascot, jersey, rink, etc. It's all just switching the logos out either way though.
The logos are angular in design (mountains) but simple otherwise. Outlined in black/white with blue accent.”

So as suspected, nothing is changing about the colors. The team is remaining powder blue, black and gray/white.

Angular logos either way that incorporate notions of mountains or peaks. The people who suggested “Wasatch” as a way to still use the Yetis branding without the name appear to be correct. Same for keeping HC. If they go with HC but the Yeti logos, it’s basically doing the European model where clubs have unofficial nicknames.

It's sad when "Hockey Club" is the best option.

I actually liked Yeti but obviously that's not an option now, too bad.
 
I hate UHC, I think its boring to be honest. I thought it was a good way to move forward for the first season while they went through this process, but I don't like it as the permanent name. Wasatch feels very minor league to me. Of the three, Mammoth is the only decent option.

If they go with UHC, I'm going to call them the Utah Hockeys I think.

This is the best Utah could do?!

I hope to goodness they don't stick with HC. What a lame, boring, lazy and uninspiring name.

At this point they should have just kept the Coyotes name and rebranded the jerseys and colours. Would have been infinitely better than the options they are presenting as final ones.

More detailed descriptions of the actual logos:

Mammoth
Side profile looking right. Very round shape. Distinct, sharp lines in the back to show fur. Tusks curls very far under the head. Trunk a little shorter. Black logo, white outline, then blue outline. Looks decently fierce with smaller eyes.

Wasatch/UHC
Same color pattern as Mammoth. Same shape and side profile. Back and top of it are mountains that bleed into the face of the Sasquatch. It has a much fiercer look showing teeth. Looks like it's hunting something.

They both sound kinda cool. Fan reaction online seems positive to the logos.
 
New name to enter the mix:

Utah Axemen

Logging/Forestry helped build the state and railway in the 1800's.
 
I wanted Yeti. Bummer. No Stingers or Venom? UHC is lame and Wasatch is too esoteric for the average fan. I guess Mammoth is it.
