Utah Hockey Club down to final 3 names: Hockey Club, Mammoth, and Outlaws (upd: Wasatch already nixed)

Guess I'm still disappointed that they didn't choose the Utah Bees just so the announcers could say, "They are really buzzing around out there."

The yellow-stripped uniforms with the antennae on their helmets would have looked pretty cool too.

In person voting only? I'm working Sunday but I'll attend the games tomorrow and Tuesday and vote Outlaws.

Triple A baseball team is the Bees. Should have bought the ECHL Grizzlies name and logo though. All better choices than the singular "Mammoth" or Utah Hockey Club.

Las Vegas Knights wouldn't gotten approved by the trademark board cause there's a hockey team in canada that uses knights.

I live here. In Canada we have an 8 team football league (CFL) that had two teams

Saskatchewan Rough Riders and The
Ottawa Rough Riders.

Considering at one point a full 25% of a professional league was named the rough riders im sure we could work something out

Utah Hockey Club is easily the best. Every hockey team should be just that, almost every team name is cringe.

Good point, poster #934812. I.. can’t believe you’re serious. City names themselves are unnecessary and rather cringe, I’d rather be “city #408 sport #4 athletic club,” ya know?

It should be The Outlaws. The marketing opportunities are endless and it sounds downright badass.

The only argument against seems to be from the bleeding hearts who don't think a hockey team should encourage criminal activity. They should probably shut up.

I really like the outlaws, but I agree. I'm sure the league will be super involved to ensure the logos wouldn't be too menacing. And it's an unfortunate guarantee no logo will include a gun, despite the usual outlaw being portrayed as a wild west era gunslinger. God forbid we have a cartoon image of a gun, it will be directly responsible for the next act of gun violence of course.

What the mother f- is a Knickerbocker, why is the team in Toronto named after a foliage (obviously that’s not why but if we are just going to pretend to be ignorant then…) and why are famous teams in baseball called “Sox” and have actual socks for logos?

We can play this game all day. It’s weird because you aren’t used to it. Your ignorance doesn’t mean it can’t eventually work. Do you think the majority of folks actually know why most teams are named they were or what the true origin stories are? You don’t think regionally important names have been used throughout professional sports history?

I think you misunderstood my post. I'm fine with a regional name - but a name which will more times than not be pronounced incorrectly outside the region the team exists in is problematic IMO.

Just pick Mammoth and be done with it.
- it has meaning to the state of Utah
- there is no other elephant adjacent mascot in American sports save for Alabama Crimson Tide
- could do so cool logos and jerseys
- could have a fun mascot named Woolly

Meet Wooly, the Colorado Mammoth mascot.

small technicality. Saskatchewan does not have a space in their nickname while Ottawa did.

I lived in DC when they changed the basketball team's name from Bullets to Wizards. I don't think anyone then or now thinks that mascots cause gun violence. But I personally found it in poor taste for a basketball team to be called the "Bullets" in a city where almost 500 people a year were dying from gun violence.

There are a lot of talented graphic designers out there, I'm sure they can come up with a suitably badass 'Outlaws' logo without fetishizing handguns. Don't think that makes them "bleeding hearts" for doing so

I was on the Utah Outlaws bandwagon a year ago and I'm happy to see it added back in. I think it's pretty obviously going to be Mammoth.

Anything but boring Utah Hockey Club. What's next? Atlanta Athletes?

I wanted Outlaws but I doubt the gun issue is why that name didn't get picked. There's all sorts of awesome imagery you could use outside of guns.

Honest question...what sounds better?

1. Utah Mammoth/Mammoths
2. Utah Ice Raptors
3. Utah Polar Raptors

For the lot who know the law, can't they just go with Ice Raptors?
