Utah Hockey Club down to final 3 names: Hockey Club, Mammoth, and Outlaws (upd: Wasatch already nixed)

This is honestly coming off as amateur hour now.

And meh, Utah Outlaws just sounds like an auto-generated team name that you'd see in an unlicensed videogame or a movie that didn't have the rights to use actual NHL names, tbqh.
100% true, and yet also the best option .... egad

I'm not a fan of singular names like Wild or Mammoth. Outlaws is pretty corny, but so was "golden knights" so I bet it would be easy to get used to. Kinda like HC the best but they all are underwhelming.

Golden knights is by far the stupidest name.

Las Vegas knights sounds so much better.
Makes it a party theme too

Of all now I would take outlaws. I didn’t know of the butch Cassidy reference e

Why not Utah Salt Lakes ?

I think it would have fitted the best no joke.

Otherwise, the classiest and most elegant option is Utah Hockey Club by far imo.

The other two options sounds like randomly generated names for some youth sports organization.

I think every team name has that feel initially. If you were to reintroduce a lot of teams in the league they would sound like bush league names.

They should just call them the Salt Lake City Punk!s
SLC Punk would be awesome but they'd probably get sued by this existing Lithuanian team ;)

Las Vegas Knights wouldn't gotten approved by the trademark board cause there's a hockey team in canada that uses knights.

I keep on seeing this but Mammoth is completely valid because it's not just talking about the extinct animal, it's talking about the concept, "size" - as in, that was a mammoth beating they gave the Avalanche (which is a singular plural.)

And like the Avalanche, fans will say Mammoths as they say Avalanches. It's not a big deal.

My actual dislike is how hard they're sticking with Utah as the place name. I honestly think Salt Lake _____________ rolls off the tongue better in most cases than Utah _____________.

People say avalanches?

True but let's be honest, they sound that way until they don't. Pretend as best you can the names I'm about to list had no history or legacy. Imagine if a new expansion team was toying with the Flyers, Red Wings, Senators or Canadiens as team name options. I mean the last one would be laughed out to death as peak lazy. Legacy and history do a lot to make most names sound great or at least decent enough.

As a Vegas resident, I despised the name Golden Knights and the reason for Foley's selection and insisted I'd only call them the Knights. A winning inaugural season with a cup finals appearance helped me correct course pretty quickly.
