Does this negate their waiver order? With Kaliyev waived, do they get a shot at where there at in the standings, or do they forfeit it because they used a claim here?

You are sort of "buying" the contract from the either team, and each player's waiver price is calculated based on their experience, with the price going down each year.

It's essentially a small compensation to the original club for developing the player they just lost on waivers.

I had my memory jogged and remembered Nick DeSimone had a high event game against the Coyotes last year that might have left an impression with the now Utah braintrust. Bad turnover led to a 1st period goal and then he scored in the 2nd.
