He was intriguing during his draft year.
He was intriguing after too, but losing the 2019-20 season after looking very good in his first pro season and like he was a sure fire top 4 defenseman, it really hurt his development.

Ah the guy who was supposed to be better than Suzuki according to flames fans
by Flames "fans" I'm sure you mean just one moron. painting an entire fanbase with the same brush does nothing but make you look as bad as the moron you are referring to

Yeah kinda like Kotkaniemi was supposed to be better than Tkachuk

Shit happens all the time

He's had such an uneven, up and down career. Full of setbacks and stop/start seeming development. Curious if his contract keeps teams from bothering with him and a re-reclamation project all over again this time. It's not that big, but it's more than just a minimum dollar, fully buriable sort of deal...and with another year left on it.

and I was absolutely against it. I found it disgusting
... And you thought at some point Mete was better than Hronek, that Montreal should not trade Gallagher for RNH and that Juulsen was part of the Habs core.

You are not immune to poor talent evaluation.

At the time both Suzuki and Vaalimaki were top prospects, and Habs pool sucked ass at LHD so much Bergevin drafted like 6 in the same draft.

Vaalimaki's knee got destroyed. Shit happens, who knows if his career would have gone another trajectory if that did not happen.

Really looked great in his first NHL stint and then after several injuries had a hard time pivoting. Can't get beat outside as much as he does and expect to stay in the big league.

I remember seeing people posting advanced stats last year that made it seem like Valimaki was one of the best defensive defensemen in the league

Advanced stats are, for the most part worthless.

Pens maybe as they might have lost a dman this game against the Rangers ?

If Utah wants him gone, Pens should wait for him to clear and try and get a mid-round pick back for taking him on, if they actually need him.
