kind of neither

he's sparkplug scrappy but nobody you'd really rank in a list of fighters, and rides that tweener line where he occasionally has a feel for the puck but not in a way that says "you belong in the NHL 100% of the time"

his value is realistically being a guy with an engine willing to go to bat for a bad hockey team even though they're a bad hockey team. I'm only guessing because I haven't seen much since he became a Coyote (Coyoti? CoYeti?) but he's probably the guy in the room most grateful for the opportunity and willing to chuck his body around and forecheck like it matters even in games where it doesn't.

this contract, especially the third year, seems like a bit of a thank you/good soldier bonus

Good deal, he's a team guy who got better over the years and fits in well with Utah's lineup. Cheap for a depth player who will bleed for the team and is more useful than the typical AHL goon.
