Players who only played for Team Russia not allowed!

Krutov - Larionov - Makarov
Kharlamov - Petrov - Mikhailov
Yakushev - Federov - Bure
Firsov - Maltsev - Bobrov

Fetisov - Kasatonov
Ragulin - Lutchenko
Vasilyev - Konstantinov

Tretiak
Konovalenko

Bobrov had the talent to be an all-time great, but due to the circumstances of starting hockey late, he never quite reached the peak comparable to the best players in the world. Talent wise that fourth line could might as well be the first.

You could keep KLM together, or play Fedorov with Krutov and Makarov.

The 2nd line (the Green Unit of the '70s(they wore the green sweaters also, but the name didn't catch on like it did for the 5-player unit in the '80s)) is close to perfect, so they're fine.

I don't know if Bobrov is good enough to play, probably not.

Several other forwards are possibilities....Kamensky and Khomutov were very strong at the end of the Soviet Union, so they really should be there.

Mogilny, of course, and other guys who might get a look...Kapustin, Balderis, maybe Shepelev. I liked the Golikovs but there's only so many spots.

Probably only Firsov from the '60s generation. Starshinov and the guys on the other big line, probably not.

Other Ds....Pervukhin, Bilyaletdinov, Zubov, Yushkevich are possibles...

Bobrov would likely not be good enough if we take him at his real self. If we take him at his talent potential he could have very well been at the level of Jagr/Howe.

When the USSR's national team visited Britain to play soccer against the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal Bobrov absolutely dominated and scored 6 goals in 4 matches. The Soviets went to the heart of soccer totally underestimated kind of like during the SS72 and came out undefeated drawing two games and winning two other games.

Bobrov also absolutely dominated the Soviet soccer league:

Despite being competent at bandy he only started playing hockey at the age of 24. During his last international tournament he played before retiring (WC 1957) he was 34 and he scored 13 goals in 5 games.

He was also born and brought up in the poverty stricken Russia of the 1920s and 30s where the average male grew to be just 5'6 while he made it to 5'10 or 5'11. He'd have been a 6'2 monster had he lived today.

I can easily identify three snubbed greats I've drafted in 20+ years of All-Time Drafts on these boards.

Vikulov, who took the face off against Esposito in the 1972 Summit Series, a RW/C.

Tsygankov, a heralded tough defenseman who was part of the legendary 3-on-5 extended penalty kill against rival Czechoslovakia.

Helmuts Balderis may have been Latvian but he was 100% regrettably USSR member, brought by Tikhonov to Moscow.

Mogilny deserves a spot more than Bure who achieved less playing for the USSR.

Mogilny won the Olympic gold in 88 scoring 3 goals as a kid playing in a mask - that includes the last official Soviet Olympic goal against Finland. In '89 he won the World Championship playing for the USSR main team. He was also was the champion and best player at the Hockey Juniors where he the best player on the Mogilny Fedorov Bure top line.

Zubov was too young to play for the USSR. Konstantinov played at just one world championship where I think he was a forward.

So here is my team:

Tretiak
Puchkov
Konovalenko
(honourable mentions: Myshkin, Mylnikov, Irbe)

Fetisov. Vasilyev. Kasatonov. Ragulin.
Sologubov. Lutchenko. Davydov.

Krutov. Makarov. Larionov. Kharlamov. Mikhailov. Petrov. Bobrov. Firsov.
Yakushev. Shadrin. Shalimov.
Kamensky. Balderis.

PS. Players were selected based only on their Soviet careers, therefore Fedorov Mogilny, Bure etc did not make the team.
