Usports NCAA Commitments

I thought Moncton and UQTR would be immune from this?
I would think it hurts them less but some French guys might still prefer the NCAA route …

We’ve seen some guys at UNB who’s English was iffy at best, Chris Clapperton in particular comes to mind….

I just think if they were interested in an English post secondary education they would have already done so.

UNB has had a lot of success recruiting players from Quebec the last decade…hope that pipeline continues.

Anyone heard anything about Darveau ? Moncton has added a goaltender already for next year , could just be a third string guy but makes me wonder … he might be the most desirable AUS guy for a team to add.
Haven't heard anything about Darvs, but Dallaire was signed as a 3rd string, Laganière is graduating this year.

I’m almost more curious how many guys leave each year after this season…

Say a guy gets 35 points in the CIS as a rookie , is he just off to the states? We won’t know until the time comes , just a thought .

Couple of "rumors/facts" to report.

Cohen and Sedore, UPEI going south.
Plandowski, UNB and Reynolds is again rumored.
Roger, SMU going.
Johnston, Motew and Christopoulos, SFX and possibly 1 more.

Edit: add Maillet from SFX.
I would imagine Saganiuk might look to leave as well. American guy.

Colby Jaquet ... came across this profile today ... odd to leave USask after two seasons to go NCAA Div III.

It makes me wonder to what extent we might see transfers to/from NCAA Div III?

This is a very troubling development. If NCAA div III turns out to be the second choice for CHL players, then the quality of play in USport hockey will plummet

Rule change only effects D1 I believe.

He didn't play in playoffs or U-Cup. Only had 12 and 14 games in 2 seasons. Maybe go south and be a big fish in a small pond?

Most likely , if I think back at kids from the MHL who have gone Div.3 they generally aren’t as good as the kids who go CIS… It’s just not as good of hockey so he likely just wanted more ice time .

Go compare the quality of player going D3 vs CIS … If I think of the best guys to play in Fredericton they all went CIS out of Junior besides Cam Thomson who went to the Netherlands and goalie Jack Grant went D.3

One thing I enjoy about that league is guys want to play CIS , they aren’t dreaming of the NHL, it’s viewed as a success story and not a failed pro dream.

There's no question that USports is, on average, miles above NCAA Div III. I don't foresee an exodus to DIII ... tuition is much more expensive than in Canada.

That said, many kids who are playing for the love of the game will enjoy that experience playing somewhere where the games mean something. Many DIII programs get good crowds as they are the main/only show in town. I recently spoke with a 19 year old Jr A player who would choose to not play USports if he stayed in Canada, but would go to a DIII school to play if it was at a school that had good crowds (e.g., Norwich, Oswego).

Per Bob Stauffer on Oilers now - Brett Hyland , Sean Tschigerl , Marc Lajoie , and Aidan de la Gorgendier heading to Nebraska Omaha.

de la Gorgendier played 10 games in the ECHL which is interesting .

Wow…massive loss of talent. Arguably their four best players.

Not sure I understand how De La Gorgendiere can play though…pretty sure he signed an ECHL contract and would’ve been getting paid, no? Unless the NCAA is dismissing anything prior to the rule change?

You should listen to his interview with Oil Kings GM Kirt Hill. They discuss the NCAA recruitment process.
