Using 2 different length sticks (1 for PP, 1 for ES)

Somebody just asked this question about a week ago on the 32 thoughts pod. They didn't really have any examples of anyone doing this. I could see using a longer stiffer/stronger stick with less curve on the PK. But changing your offensive weapon seems more difficult to adapt. Part of the issue is that kids don't grow up with an unlimited budget for sticks, so they learn to play with a single stick.

Yeah longer stick for PK duty would actually make sense. Especially if you aren't a skill guy.

Puck feel wouldn't matter a whole lot when you are just trying to whack it down the ice, and an extra few inches in the lanes could make a difference in terms of interrupting passes.

Is there a max length for a stick? Use a 7-feet stick and you can just poke the puck from any opponent when you doing PK.

Rule 10 – Sticks

10.1 Player’s Stick – (see 10.2 for goalkeeper) The sticks shall be made
of wood or other material approved by the League, and must not have
any projections. Adhesive tape of any color may be wrapped around
the stick at any place for the purpose of reinforcement or to improve
control of the puck.

No stick shall exceed sixty-three inches (63") in length from the
heel to the end of the shaft nor more than twelve and one-half inches
(121/2") from the heel to the end of the blade.

Requests for an exception to the length of the shaft (only) may be
submitted in writing to and must be approved by the Hockey
Operations Department prior to any such stick being used. Only
players 6’6” tall or more will be considered for exception. Maximum
length of a stick granted an exception under this rule is sixty-five
inches (65”).

So a 65-inch stick made out of bamboo is the best we can do. Should be light enough.

Insanity….id feel like im playing a different sport if you put a different length stick in my hands

A lot of guys at that level obsess over their sticks more than any other piece of gear they have……if you are neurotic about how many wraps of tape are on your blade……..

Takes me like 3 games to adjust to different stick lengths on the rare occasion I change. It's not realistic to switch mid-game. One-timers would be damn near impossible to connect on when you go from a shorter stick at ES to longer on the PP.

The difference between their cut stick and long stick doesn't result in that much flex difference, unless you're asking them to play with a difference of 3+ inches. Typically a good rule is about 3 flex per inch. How so much longer are they using for the powerplay?

Have you seen Zibanejad on the powerplay? Maybe using a longer stick isn't the best option for some players.

I think most players would absolutely hate 2 different sizes. I know I would.

Also - get better real life examples that compare to this.

ovi has been using an all black stick with no lettering on it on the powerplays, i think he might be endorsing a his own stick?

It was from an independant company. He made the switch because the older sticks he was using. the new models didn't feel right. He preferred the older technology and didn't like the adjustment. It felt off.

Probably reinforces that Hockey players using 2 different sticks wouldn't be a smooth process.
