What happened to society where we just ignore things we don't like

Like I was out Sunday and the Jesus protestors were outside Nats park with their big Repent signs talkin' about how the day of reckoning is coming and this dude has a big megaphone attached to his waist talking about how man and man sex is a crime and forbidden by the good book and people are like telling him to shut up, giving him the middle finger, yelling back at him
